ADHD AND MEDIKINET PROBLEMS?

Hi

My son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, I have know since he was 2-3 that he might have ADHD! He has behaviour and play specialist's who said he likes fast paced toys! at school he was ok until he reached yr 1 where he started to struggle, we move house and school and within weeks they called with concerns that he might have autism, which shocked me as I would have said ADHD. We have managed with hos behaviour and stick to boundaries which don't go down too well with him. Although he has his diagnoses once his consultant calms him down hopefully they can see if he also has autism. I was anti drugs but due to his school work severely deteriorating I thought that it would be best to give medication a try! He started 5mg last saturday only in the mornings I noticed nothing, his school noticed nothing but by thursday the school had asked me if I had noticed anything, the only thing I had noticed was that his behaviour was a lot worse! he seemed more aggressive! today he started 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the afternoon all day he has been his usual self apart from aggressive outbursts! It has taken me 55 mins to get him to stay in bed and go to sleep. He has thrown all his bedding of his bed, screamed and shouted, shook and jumped on his bed while screaming! He normally has tantrums where he stands there screaming at me, or banging his feet slamming doors etc.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

thanks

Hi there
My ds1 has ADHD and he takes medikinet alongside strattera I find the 2 together helps.
It has took years and several attempts at getting the meds right, and yes he also had the outbursts when he first started them. Speak to his doctor, they should have experience of this.

Good luck, it's can be an incredibly long journey but you will get there Smile

My DS, 6, started on 10mg of Medikinet 3 weeks ago. For the first few days we noticed a difference, but then nothing at all. After 2 weeks doc suggested we up dose to 20mg, due to a rash and tummy ache we stopped it completely 3 days after upping dose. We noticed a massive difference in DS behaviour and he was soooo aggressive too. He's been off it now for just over a week and while general behaviour is bck to bein as normal as is usual, the aggressive is def not as bad asit was.
Docs now suggesting he tries strattera in a few wks. I am a but put off due to probs with the medikinet and also becuz I have always been so anti-medication..... However gettin to where i couldnt cope with his behaviour and effecting him and his LS.
Sorry for hogging this, just wanted to say ur not alone and to get my place on here to see what anyone else has to say.
Oh and DS has a ASD/ADHD diagnosis.
