advice please

I have a 6 year old in year 2. She has struggled all through school and can barely read or write. She sees the SN teacher at school. Her last teacher agreed with me that she has concentration problems. Ive just had parents evening and her new teacher says she just lazy? The SN teacher says theres no point in doing anything and i am just labelling her. If she is dyslexic theres nothing they can do about it anyway. I have put an appointment on for the doctors on Monday as i am not at all happy with the situation and feel the school are just letting her get further behind and not doing anything about it. She cannot read reception books. She can write the alphabet but cant write a sentence. She is okish at maths but still behind. Its like shes in her own little world daydreaming most of the time. She reads and writes things backwards and forgets a word from one page to the next,

What do i say to the doctor and who do i ask to be refered to. (docs are useless as well)

You Could ask about assessment for things like ADD ( Attention Deficit Disorder). It can be mistaken for daydreaming or laziness. Is she like this at home too? You could ask the GP to refer to a paediatric psychologist for assessment for possible learning difficulties (this could include things like dyslexia and ADD but also other difficulties too)

I'm assuming you've done the obvious things like getting her hearing checked?

Poor little soul. Sounds like she has, unsurprisingly, completely turned off. School is hell for a child who can't read.

The teacher is not in a position to decide that your DD is just lazy. It's her job to teach, not to diagnose.
