HELP WITH LEA

My son c is 11 and diagnosis of aspergers,he has been on school action from the age of 3 and since feb last yr school action +,i reqested an assesment of his SEN with the LEA,they agreed and has now issued a NOTE IN LIEU,disappointed with decision and have now got a meeting this fri 13th with LEA,any suggestions or advice would be very beneficial. regards.

Note in lieu is truly not worth the paper it is written on. Do not accept such a document, you need a Statement.

TBH it sounds like your son has been let down badly by his previous schools. School Action Plus also does not amount to a great deal either support wise.

You should also contact independent organisations like SOS:SEN as they can help with such matters as well.

Post also on the Special Needs; children part of this website as well as that receives more traffic.

If you have not to date applied for DLA (disability living allowance) this is something that you could look into as well.

Never forget that you are your child's best and only advocate.

Ask the LEA if they know of any residential special Schools for Aspergers which your son could go to. He could attend four nights and five days Monday to Friday.

Again a Statement would be needed for this re residential special schools. Also they could well be loathe to pay for such a thing via a Statement (particularly if the school in question is outside the LEA in question) so such a matter could end up at a SENDIST Tribunal hearing.

Google Priory Group and Aspergers Syndrome. Look at Aspergers colleges near Shrewsbury and near Frome.

You need a statement and nothing less. Only a statement can make the support your son needs legally binding.

Go to the meeting, don't say too much other than repeat like a broken record that you want a statement and are going to appeal, so they can do it the long and expensive tribunal way, or agree to statement your son now.
