Am I mad to invest £11k in aesthetics training?

I am a registered nurse, 20 years experience in my field and a prescriber. Found myself as a single parent and, though on a good salary, i would love to feel some extra security. Considering additional qualifications in aesthetics for a few years and figure now might be a good time to take the plunge. Looked at a 12-14 month course which I feel will give me enough detail and confidence to progress my own practice. Although there are cheaper ways to go about it, as a healthcare professional I feel that I want as much knowledge and supervised practice as possible. Course is approx £11k, am I mad? Benefit of the longer course is also I will get training in microneedling, peels and knowledge around skin health so I can be more rounded and offer what clients need as opposed promoting Botox to fix all problems.

I think you would be mad yes. It’s a saturated market already.

Honestly I don’t think it’s worth it.

There’s already an insane amount of aesthetic service providers out there with varying levels of training and experience. Everyone and their nan is trying to get in on the trend that came to an end in 2024.

Given how much it costs to start your own business, especially in such an area, you’re unlikely to ever break even, let alone make a profit.

There’s also a lot of nervousness about providers due to the high amount of people who’ve done 14 day courses which legally “qualifies” them to inject people with god knows what. Users are nervous and if happy with an existing provider, are unlikely to change.

The natural look is also making a come back thankfully.

I hope not because I’ve just done it 🤣 I’ve done CPD courses, not the L7 & I think I’ve probably spent around £6000.

That’s why I would want to do a longer course, focused on all types of skin care interventions not just those that involve filling or feeezing.

What you have in your favour is that you are a prescriber. That's where the money is at. And as the regs get tightened, this will work well j your favour. It is appalling that there are 16 year olds with a two day course injecting into peoples faces. Use your registration to your advantage. Target a certain market where people are willing to pay more for your professional expertise. I don't think you need to speak 11k though , I think it can be done for less than that

And I would still be doing my FT job. No ambition to give that, merely supplement

I'm afraid I agree with this. Where I live there are loads of qualified nurses regularly advertising aesthetics on the local Facebook pages.

My sister does aesthetics and only makes around £1000 a month on it as a side gig. She is a doctor.
There’s a LOT of competing providers, you’d need a prescriber and a venue and a client list.
