Like most of us tired/busy working parents, daily life seems to be running away with me and I’ve recently stopped to rethink my future.

Needing some honest and direct advice/feedback!

As parents to pre-schoolers and primary school kids, what is one essential item for nursery/school that you wish you could have a premium and personalized version of. Example initialed backpack, wet bag, water bottle, etc.

I’m considering business ideas and want to test the waters with any feedback I get.

thank you in advance to everyone who posts

My DD is grown up now, but she used to lose stuff almost daily in primary school..

would you have considered a premium quality item at a reasonable price tag, or was cheap and cheerful the better option?

In my dd case we always bought cheap/replaceable as she was so careless/ forgetful. (Still is at 19 with her bastard iphone)

Others may well have more careful children 😀

MazeyP · 13/12/2025 19:46

I wouldn't buy anything premium for a preschooler as they will either swallow it, ignore it or make it disappear

Oh hello, MLM bot.

Always cheap and cheerful. Anything "premium" would immediately end up in a puddle/someone else's home.

MLM Alert what are you shilling @LilBills? This sounds like a placement post fishing for potential recruits.

The MLM bot got zapped. They were shilling their 'travel consultancy' MLM.

YouOKHun · 27/12/2025 16:43

Surprise surprise @WeWillWeWillRockYou. IT/PNM has been busy on this site lately. The MLM bots think they disguise their scam so well don’t they? Don’t they realise that almost all of their audience can see straight through them and their tired old script? Especially on MN.

BestZebbie · 27/12/2025 16:51

Personalised stuff that strangers can see (like bags, lunchboxes and clothing) is a security hazard anyway - a young child can be easily tricked into thinking a stranger is a trusted family friend if they know the child's name.

YouOKHun · 27/12/2025 17:12

And understood about the zapped bot, it’s just that so many of these types of threads either have an OP that attempts to position an MLM or the OP is entirely innocent but attracts scammers looking to recruit women (usually) at a career/life crossroads. As you were…

Oh, I see what you mean. A sort of innocent "Hmm, what do you think of this?".

YouOKHun · 27/12/2025 17:26

Exactly @WeWillWeWillRockYou! The OP is usually a vague “survey” type question, appealing to/trying to engage a particular demographic. I may well be wrong this time but it’s not unusual.

I am a support assistant in a school, my advice to any parent of a primary school aged child? Write their name upon every item taken to school, particularly clothing. If a 'lost property' item has a name, I can get it back to its owner. No name? forget it. Do not take 'designer' items to school, just cheap serviceable stuff, please.

ParallelLimes · 28/12/2025 04:07

Gosh if only name labels had been invented decades ago. If only someone had already invented such a thing that you could attach to pretty much anything as the sticky name label... or a pen (maybe they could call it a "permanent marker" or a "Sharpie") that you could write names on anything with... 🤔
