Finding quality reputable Chinese supplement manufacturer

Hi all,

I’ve worked with a nutritionalist on a new supplement formula which I’m hoping to launch this year. My background is marketing. I’m doing this all self funded and just don’t have the budget for uk based companies.

The nutritionalist said she’s not concerned about the factory being abroad (and noted that all the base products will come from china anyway).

But how to find one? I don’t know anyone in this field, and tried the government business support but they were no use.

any tips?

I can’t say I have any real advice, but I’m a sucker for supplements and have bought one too many bottles of things from acupuncturists not to look into this a bit.

Phoenix Nutriscience (which also owns Aura) is the only company I know that operates in the UK.
That means that I’ve been happy to spend £20+ for a bottle of supplements, believing that it’s tightly monitored and third-party tested.

In other words, I think you need to tread carefully. I’m about as gullible and spend-happy as consumers come for this sort of business, but I don’t want to die in a Daily Mail/ I took a Herbal In slimming tea/ now I’m dying of liver failure story.

If you can’t afford UK-based companies then I’m not sure that you will find UK-based customers in an already competitive marketplace.

Would you want to eat stuff that’s made in China? Especially from the kind of manufacturer that’s willing to take small orders. Can you guarantee it’s safe? It’s a huge risk imo. As a customer I’d pay more for the safety aspect of something made in the UK or EU. Imo you need to look harder for a UK manufacturer, or sell white label supplements until you can afford to make your own. Try asking ChatGPT, it’s great for finding manufacturers and suppliers.

Thanks. FYI my nutritionalist thinks most core products in all supplements are from China and then they are manufactured into a product in the UK.

But your core point of finding a quality manufacturer is key - I've no idea how I might find one abroad.

Got one contact in this field so I will tap him up and see if he has any advice but if not I think I'll need to try and find a UK-based one.

I've got a niche in mind so I need to manufacture my own rather than white label as much as I'd like to!

Thanks both for advice - really helpful.
