Etsy Selling Problems

I set up an Etsy shop on Thursday and last night I have been suspended and my appeal denied within 4 minutes. I am gutted. So this morning I have had a message from Marianne at Etsy asking me to scan a QR to verify my bank details, which I think is the reason I was suspended, when I scan the QR code it asks me for my card details. Is this a scam? Im so disappointed.

Hi there, firstly, don’t panic, but stop engaging with the message straight away. Please check that the message was actually sent to you by Etsy. I’ve had all manner of these messages which are very convincing, but they are actually from fraudsters.

Good luck OP and let me know how you get on 💪

Thank you! I live chatted with someone who said it was genuine but I just noticed the live chat was on the page that the QR code took me to. I have a feeling its a scam but worry that it isn't and I will never get my shop back

Don’t panic - come out of the app and go to Etsy’s homepage on the web. Contact them directly from there. Don’t engage with the original message at all (clicking links, QR codes etc.) until it’s all sorted with Etsy. The message could be from them, but it could be from a scammer. Out of interest, why was your account suspended? Was it just because you haven’t got your full bank details cleared yet? It’s a very short time between you setting up the shop (Thursday) and you being suspended (today), so I would assume it’s because they haven’t been able to verify your bank details yet. Remember that Etsy works on US time so have probably had less than one working day to do this. They can’t just let you start trading and accepting payments without the financial mechanisms in place. Stay calm, talk to Etsy from the homepage and give it a few days for all the financials to be in place. In the meantime, use this time to take nice photos of your stock and work on your branding, social media presence and admin so that when your bank details clear, you’re ready to go! Good luck lovely 🥰

You’ve made me feel much better, appreciate your advice.

I don’t know why, they gave no reason but I suspect it was because I didn’t verify my bank details. I set the shop up then it completely slipped my mind. I went on last night (set up Thursday tea time) to check if I had any interest and there was a suspension banner on my account. X
