TAB/The Alternative Board

Does anyone have any experience of ‘the alternative board’ or ‘TAB’ as they call themselves. They have approached us with very differing results - my husband seems to think they are the solution to all our problems, whereas I am far more skeptical. Given how big they are meant to be (and the salvation they self purportedly bring), I can’t believe we wouldn’t have been recommended them by other business owners directly.

A google search for client reviews returns only those on their website. Lots of employee reviews (mixed) on various sites. I’d love to hear any first hand experiences from anyone who has been involved with one of their boards.

many thanks!

Are you based in the South West? If so, it is worth joining the Bristol Chamber of Commerce as they offer an 'The Alternative Board' service, for a 3 month period, as part of the £500 Membership fee (plus all the other benefits)

My DFriend did this as a taster/live test when she was deciding between TAB, Action Coach & AN Other local coach. Most of them are, in effect, franchise of the top brand co, so quality is hit and miss depending on your area

My understanding (not personal experience, just feedback from other people I know) is that any Business growth coaching is highly dependant on your willingness to learn, ability to implement, the size of business and cash position. Plus the relationship you have with the specific coach too.

Research them, their history and successes (actual, not what they tell you), establish their new member cycle, retention rate, average length of relationship and how honest they are in their assessment of your business

Thank you - I’m trying but can’t find much that is independent on the internet (hence registering to mumsnet 😂). Sadly we are south east but will see if there is anything similar around here.

Resorting, not Registering. I’ve been here for year but never thought to look at business boards.

What support do you actually want?

SarahMols · 26/09/2023 17:41

Hi, in our experience Business Support, Coaches, Mastermind Groups vary hugely. The key is to find one that fits you.

How much do you want to grow your business?
How much support do you need?
How much are you willing to spend?
How much time do you have to development and growth?
Plus any other questions specific to you.

You then need to find a great personality fit.

There is no use spending out on top budget support, when actually you have a personality clash with the person/people you are working with.

I'd suggest the following:

  • Look for independent reviews - left on Google, Trust Pilot etc
  • Google the company and see what else comes up
  • Go to any free/low cost events they might hold and get a feel for them
  • Compare prices and value. Some of these groups cost a huge amount of money which might not be needed.
  • Speak to existing members

If you'd like to try a low cost solution, we run our own Mastermind Groups at our company Outside ideas called Mastermind9 (just Google Mastermind Groups UK and we'll be there).
You can Google our name and you'll see we're quite well known, and we're good people, trying to attract 'Good Egg Business Owners'.

Our sweet spot is helping solopreneur's and Small Businesses, and we're priced accordingly. We believe that the Small Businesses deserve just as much support as the large ones.
We keep our overheads down by operating online, which works really well for many, and we pack just as much of a punch in the value we give.

We also run an online Networking Group, called Networking in. So if you wanted to see how we operate you'd be welcome to join us. Just use the code FriendofSarah at checkout if you'd like to come along as my guest.

Good luck finding the support you need, I know it can be daunting and really tricky to find the right fit, but it's so worth it when you do.

Sarah
