Freelance/Self-employed - can I cash a cheque written in my trading name?

Hi,

Recently started up and received a cheque (unexpected refund from supplier, not from client) written in my trading name. Or do I need the cheque re-written?

So I am "Awesome Aircraft" and the cheque is written to "Awesome Aircraft Spaceship Design".

I am self employed (not a ltd company) and don't have a business account in the my trading name.

No you won't be able to and if your bank gets wind of you using a personal account for business purposes you could run the risk of having your account closed if business use is prohibited in your terms and conditions.

Thanks, I contacted my bank (firstdirect) and did not mention anything about this, but it was the live chat. I will check the terms and conditions. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, just reread myself and I sound unclear. The bank did not mention anything about not being able to use my account for business, but it was the live chat, so I will check my T&C.

My bank is totally OK with me using a personal account for business purposes. ( I am a sole trader)
