Freelancing and retainer fee question

Hi,
I'm just setting up my first business as a consultant and I have been asked what I would charge for a monthly retainer fee over the course of six months. Does anyone have any experience in contracts and calculating retainer fees?

With regards to retainer, I would just do a bit of research on what other consultants in you field charge. Know your worth, if you consider yourself an expert, make sure you charge as such. The right client will pay for the service regardless of cost.
