Which sling to choose??

Help..my friend is about to have her first child and I've offered to buy her a sling. I used a Huggababy but have just been looking at a Babasling. They look as if they are fairly similar has anyone had the Babasling experience? would you recommend it? I know she wouldn't want a fussy sling with lots of wrapping of material, and it has to have wide shoulder straps to avoid pain. Any advice welcome!!

I bought a Babasling and was given a BabyBjorn - of the two I much prefer the Babasling. Never tried a Huggababy but they look very similar in the way that DC is carried, just without so much fabric. The strap is comfortable, it's easy to get on and off and DD is cosy and supported. I wouldn't wear it all day (as DD is now 5 months and 14lb) but for a couple of hours it's great.

The only downsides are that newborns are quite enveloped and it got a bit hot in the summer but that is obv less of an issue now. Also is it isn't that easy to loosen straps while wearing but I haven't found this a real problem.

I haven't used a Babasling but the reviews I've seen have not been that wonderful. Common complaints seem to be that it is uncomfortable, difficult to adjust, very bulky and quite expensive for the use you get out of it.

Most people seem to agree a stretchy wrap like a Moby or Kari-Me is a better option for a newborn. But as your friend doesn't fancy wrapping, a hybrid carrier like the Close or the TotsBots Papoozle, both of which mimic the effect of a stretchy wrap, without the fiddly wrapping, would be better.

Thanks to you both for your advice, I'll look into the slings suggested.

I liked the baby bjorn when the dcs were quite little but after about 4 months I moved on to Hot Slings. I also really liked the Storchenwiege wrap for times when I knew that I wouldn't be taking baby in and out a lot.
