Which sling?

Hi, I am expecting DC2 in 3 weeks time and I'm considering getting a sling. I didn't use one for DD1, so have no idea what to look for.

Essentially I want a sling that is quick to get on and off as I don't anticipate using it all the time, and possible to breastfeed in. I suppose I envisage using it when I'm out and about with DD1 and can then easily carry DC2 and feed if necessary.

What would your recommendations be? I like the look of ring slings for their ease of getting on and off?

Ring Sling as a nanny and now maternity nanny i have used a ring sling as my sling of choice for 18 yrs, i initailly had a wilkinet for a yr but 'quick' it is not

I have used bought slings but for compact size i have made one from a jersey pashmina/scarf from Zara and a pair of metal rings from eBay and it is fab, it is small enough to go in the change bag without taking up the whole bag and if people don't see the rings they wouldn't know it was a sling at all.

I have used the RS from day 5 and had twins in together in ome job in the early days.

I have also used my RS for a tired 5yo in a busy airport awaiting passport control and baggage and it was a lot more comfortable for both of us than me just holding her,

I have back / hip and knee issues and find that the RS gives me no real issues as i can adjust it higher, lower and move it around my body.

Recent baby went from lying to frog (looking out) to hip to back over a 8 month period and the smile on her face when she saw the sling come out was beautiful to see and would at 10m 'choose' pushchair or sling on some trips

Ring slings are great for popping on - I had one from when DS was tiny, and loved it. Just choose one with an open tail like an Ellaroo

Is a RS better on your back than a pouch? I have a Hotslings fleece pouch and find it 'drags' on my shoulder after a while (think it might be slightly big actually)

Yes that is a problem, RS are adjustable but pouch slings aren't so the correct size is very important.

I loved my Coorie fleece pouch from www.brightsparkslings.co.uk, until my daughter was approx. 6 months old, it was so easy to pop on (like a sash and as soon as she went in it, she fell fast asleep, just like magic! I have tried ring slings, but I find it takes me too long to adjust it and have it comfortable, so now I use my Connecta ssc's or my Kozy mei tais [ile].
