Baby/toddler carrier

I have a 13 month old for whom I have been using a Ergobaby Embrace so far. My use has been occasional recently-about 4ish times a week, DS refuses to stay in the buggy when out and that’s when we use the carrier. He now seems to have outgrown it and I really felt it when travelling with him recently (something I hope to do in the coming years as well). He refused to stay in the buggy beyond a point and I need a carrier and used my old Embrace. DS isn’t walking yet and my understanding is it will be a few months before he will be able to walk confidently even when he starts.

My question is-do I need to look at another carrier (given that he will be walking soon) and if so which do you recommend ? Not sure how well he will take to a back carrier as I wonder if he just wants the proximity to me but aware that a back carrier is comfy and easier on the back for carrying toddlers (not sure how well Ergobaby Omni etc are on backs-I do enjoy walks when travelling and would feel more ‘normal’ if I could do at least some pre-baby activities).

I can't really comment on current carriers, but I'm still carrying my 2.5 year old on my back, and have done since about 5 months. I'm using an old Pognae. He preferred the back because he could see more.
I expect to carry him for while yet because although he can confidently run walk, the terrain near us is quite rocky and hilly and is just much easier to swing him onto my back and wrap the carrier up over his back. And it's great exercise for the legs too!
