Why did ergo baby changed the direction you loosen/ tighten the straps?!

Argh. So frustrating. I've worked in childcare for 12 years. The old style ergo carrier meant that you tighten the straps by pulling on them in the direction like you would with a backpack. All good. Loved it. They then changed them so you tighten them in the opposite way. I don't know why?! It's really hard to pull them tight enough and honestly it means I stop being able to carry children as long because it's too tricky. Anyone know what I mean? Anyone know if ergo still make original ones? Or similar brands?
