Secondary school backpack

My 11 year old daughter is starting secondary school in September. I bought her a pink hype bag but she is really worried because she doesn't want to 'stand out'. Can I please ask what's on trend for secondary school bags at the moment?

Hi.

Children these days have to carry a lot of supplies, which makes their backpacks considerably heavier. So it is important to choose the right school backpack before school starts, which can make them more comfortable when wearing it. What is a bit disturbing, however, is that most parents in your situation don't know how to choose the best backpack for their teen, even while browsing a comparison. So how do you do it?

Although very basic, size is the first factor to consider. You need to think about the things your child should wear to school, referring to their height and weight. Likewise, you should also determine the many pockets that might be of use.

Don't neglect the style of the teen backpack

Style is certainly not the most important factor. However, it may still be of great necessity for some, especially for those who are looking to use the backpack for a long time, and therefore would need something that will never go out of fashion.

About School Backpack, I think you should refer to Cabinzero products because it is very simple and suitable for a teenager.

My dd had a large grey Kipling backpack that lasted several years. Ds likes Adidas backpacks.

Dd1 who is going into year 7 wants this

DD is in Y9 and likes Fjallraven Kanken and they do seem to be popular at her school. They are £££ but they are very hardwearing - she has been using hers every day for the last three years and it is still completely fine.

There are some on sale here. But if you don't mind full price there are a billion other colours too.

I think Hype is fine though - I have seen lots of kids using these.

Hype, Smiggle (still bloody smiggle) and Vans are popular in our community.

I saw a sensible tip somewhere (probably on here), that it’s worth making do with something you already have for the first few weeks of secondary school before you buy a new bag.
It’s such a change from the way they’re used to operating in primary that they need time to work out what they need and prefer and what they need to carry on different days.
Give them a chance to settle in and work out whether they can get a locker etc, then make the bag decision when you’ve got more information.
