We have a littlelife backpack carrier and love it! I can get it on and off on my own, lots of pockets so I don't need a separate bag and it has a sunshade and raincover.
It's perfect for walking anywhere except somewhere very crowded or where you'll be in and out of shops a lot, due to the size.

(If you're flying I'm not sure how the airline will treat it luggage-wise as it would be too large to go in overhead bin I think)

I used a toddler-sized Connecta for my DD and loved that it rolled up small enough to go in my handbag when not being used.

You'd do well do try an Ergo. I loved mine, comfy for me and dc, and folds up small. I found framed 'hiking' carriers so uncomfortable and heavy

MyBreadIsEggy · 29/06/2017 08:27

I use a standard sized Tula for both my kids.
DD is 2yo but still in the weight limit for it, and DS is 8 months.
It's great!

I could back carry DD when she was 1 in our mei tai. DH still uses our bush baby backpack and she's three now (too heavy for me!).

Thank you everyone for your replies, I will get googling!

Ergobaby- well made and it is so comfortable

Have you got a sling library nearby where you could try some out, I find it's a very personal thing that changes from person to person.

I used a Connecta solarweave (SPF 50+, lightweight breathable fabric) as our main carrier from 3 months to just over 3 years as I didn't like the padding on more structured carriers.

We trialled a Manduca and an Ergo when she was an 2 and much preferred the fit of the Manduca but found she got very hot in it so invested in a toddler sized Connecta.

I use a Boba 4g, the weight limit on it is 45lbs. I'm kind of hoping not to be carrying him by the time he weighs that much, mind you Grin

However if you want to do a back carry (which I assume you do), getting yourself to a sling library meet would be a good idea if possible. It's not hard to get them on when you know how, but it can take a bit of confidence the first couple of times.

We hired a LittleLife carrier on holiday last year but DH found it very heavy so we ended up just using the Boba. But the advantage of the LittleLife is getting it on - it's much less of a confidence challenge.

I have been slinging my 16month old boy in a Boba which was brilliant and would definitely recommend, however there isnt an awful lot of padding. I was worried he wasnt comfy in it when he was asleep, so have bought an Ergo and I got to say I love it!
Im only 5'4" and I can easily see us slinging for the long term. Its so comfy. Grin

I love my lillebaby complete. Use it every day for my 18month old and occasionally for my three year old. Easy to use and some lovely colours availiable now.

BayLeaves · 29/06/2017 11:41

I love my Connecta so much! I'm using it again with my second baby and it's been a lifesaver. Especially walking round the supermarket while pushing the trolley Smile
