Tie it yourself baby wraps.

With the wraps that are just long pieces of material, how do you know how tight to do it up? Surely you have to fasten them before putting baby in, but then, once in, do you feel it's not tight enough, you have to start again?
Seems like a lot of faff? Or is it easier than I'm thinking..?
I've been looking at ones with the rings (close caboo type ones) as these are adjustable once baby is in.
Thoughts??

If you mean stretchy wraps then you tie it as tight as a tight tshirt. The stretch of the fabric makes the space for a baby. They're handy because you can pre tie them and pop baby in and out. With woven wraps you have to wrap around the baby, depending on which carry you are doing.

I found that the fabric slipped through the rings of a Caboo and needed frequent tightening. I much preferred a stretchy.

Another vote for stretchy wraps. I loved my Moby stretchy wrap and was so sad when DD was too big for it.

Please don't go off advice on the internet about this. I strongly advise you get yourself to a sling meet in your area where a sling librarian will happily go through putting on a wrap sling with you, almost certainly at no charge. A Caboo is slightly more fool-proof as you have rings for tightening, but use of a length-of-material wrap sling is best and safest with RL instruction. The sling librarian will also go through TICKS with you as well.

I'm aware of the local sling library, and a friend is lending me her Caboo to try out. I meant, I'm favouring a stretchy one at this point after a lot of research and will give one a go.

Stretchy wraps are great, but please get RL instruction. Don't just use an instruction leaflet or internet guide as any incorrect application or insufficient tightening can be dangerous.

Hi ladies, I am not a mother myself but i am a product design student in my final year. As my major project this year I decided to design
and develop a new style of sling for all you multitasking mums out there. I want the product to be multifunctional so that you can feed you baby while using it, your baby can sleep and be moved out of the sling while asleep without wakening, I also hope that it would be a product that you can take with you basically everywhere and it's not a hassle to bring with you and is able to function for other purposes such as a bag/ back pack. What are your thoughts on a product like this, would you be interested? Is there anything you would change or recommend that I could incorporate? All answers appreciated thank you

Hi user. You might get more responses if you start a new thread, but in response to your question I would be put off by a sling which tried to do everything at once. My priority is a comfortable, ergonomic sling or carrier which is comfortable for both my baby and for me. I already have a sling which does all of the things that you describe and I wouldn't want it also to function as a bag or backpack. Hope that this helps. Good luck.

I really like Mei Tais as they felt a bit like a wrap as they didn't have all the bulky fiddly bits that other carriers have but they were soooooooooooooo much easier to use!
