How can I ring sling my long 4 month old?

I've just bought a non stretchy ring sling and my 4 month old won't fit in it with his legs inside but it says you can use the hip sling method only from 8 months. Have I thrown my money away? He has already puked on it

I thought the advice with all slings was legs out now anyway? If he has reasonable head control I don't see why you can't put him on your hip. I can still front carry my 12mo in a ring sling, with legs out. Not for long I might add! If his head is a bit wobbly still you can roll a muslin in the top rail (when arms are in) to help.

That message was a bit all over the place sorry! My brain was thinking and my fingers typing without much of a pause.
