Ergo vs. Connecta

What would you recommend for a very young baby?

I have an ergo but want something with buckles that's quick to put on. Going away in the UK this summer so want something suitable for an 8 week old.

Is either one suitable for breastfeeding on the go too?

Thanks

Both are good for breast feeding.

For summer a connecta is a better bet, the Ergo needs a newborn (even a fairly large baby) to be in a padded newborn insert. The connecta is good to go from birth and they are a bit cheaper too.

Thanks magic, much appreciated. Also looking at a close Caboo. Any experience of those please?

I haven't used a caboo, they look nice though and I've heard good things about them. They don't have such a high maximum carrying weight though (32lbs v 44lbs for the connecta). I guess it depends on how long you want to carry your baby for, DS is 6 months old and I still have him in the sling, he also goes on my back in various slings which is really handy.

Connecta also do a solarweave fabric which is really thin and blocks UVA/UVB rays which is good when it us really hot.

Loved my connecta. We went on long haul flight with a connecta, 4 month old and a 3 year old. No buggy. She lived in it till she was about 2? We went everywhere with it. Including long haul and short hauls. Planes, trains and buses! Smile

In the summer, certainly a Connecta (or a Connecta Solarweave, which are made from cooler fabric). The Ergo newborn insert is like a little duvet and would be uncomfortably warm for both of you.

The Caboo is great but is unlikely to offer enough support past about 3 months. A Connecta will be fine until at least 12 months and quite possibly beyond.

Connecta. Rolls up small too so you can chuck it in your bag. Used mine til 16 months

Brilliant, thanks everyone. Just one more to throw into the mix - a Tula, these look great but again a bit more padded and pricier.

Think I'll probably get a connecta to start and for holiday and see after that, thank you

I have a Tula as well (...one in the wash and one spare was the excuse).

Tulas are really similar to the Ergo, I have laid one on top of the other to compare. You still need a newborn insert with the Tula. The main differences are that you can't undo the shoulder straps on the Tula, this means you cannot do a hip carry. The Tula seems to fit a slimmer frame better, with the Ergo I find the straps slipping off my shoulders, the Tula does not. With the Ergo you get a handy zip pocket on the front which gets used all the time you front carry, tbf it comes in really handy.

Also, you need to be careful where you buy your Ergo from, they have become so popular and are a worldwide brand so people make fakes which is a real pita! If the price is too good to be true then it probably is...there are loads of good places to buy them from though.

Thank you so much for your help, you obviously know your stuff.

Think I best go to a sling meet and try some first x
