so this is baby number 3 and going by the others is likely to be around 10/11lbs when born.

I've never used slings much, only ever had a babybjorn and by the time I get around to using it they are so heavy I never bother much. but with 2 other kids to look after I love the idea of carrying the baby in a sling a lot to have my hands free.

I need something:
a) suitable for a heavy and long newborn
b) easy to throw on/off - I already know if there's any messing involved i'll quit! I've seen some that have long bits hanging off, looks complicated! are there any that are just a ring of stretchy material that you throw over you? are they supportive enough?
c) would be AMAZING if I could breastfeed baby in it!

i'll be having a section so don't know if that makes a difference and I don't really plan on using a lot it past the first few months so really it's just the newborn stage I need it for. I could go to a sling library meeting if I have time near due date but it won't be the same with my bump in the way and to be honest i'd prefer to have my own one bought and sorted by the time baby comes.

thank you!

How about a connecta: www.connectababycarrier.com/

I run a sling meet and we often help pregnant women try a few out - you can still get a good idea of what sort you'd prefer, even with a bump in the way! Do try to get to one if you can, people quite often come with one fixed idea of what they'd like and discover they're much better suited to another kind...

A "ring of stretchy material" would be a pouch sling - they're not great for newborns/BFing. There are some that are effectively 3 rings of stretchy material (tricotti is one) but in general you're better of with something you can adjust to fit snugly and safely.

How about a ring sling? The "long bit hanging off" is just the result of it being adjustable - you can tuck it away if you prefer. They are great for BFing and very easy to pop on and off. They have woven not stretchy fabric, and are very supportive. See e.g.

My Pitari one is super helpful :)
I breastfed in it all the time, and its easy to put on (I'm a petite mom).
I would suggest though, that you would visit a sling library :) And try different ones out!

You can breast feed in a moby or any other stretchy wrap, slight pain to put on at first but once it's on you can keep it on all day, great for in the car, stop, put baby in, walk.
Or a ring sling, put on, put baby in, adjust slightly, walk.
I wouldn't get a pouch for a new born, I use one now, it's like a ring sling with no ring, but ds is 18months, and didn't start using it until he was over one, as you can't adjust it.
