Carrying heavy baby

Looking for some advice please!

My 6 month old DS is heavy (11kg / 24 lbs) and loves to be carried facing outwards. It's breaking my back.

I've tried slings (currently have a Manduca) but he doesn't like facing me, and I know outward facing is not recommended generally.

Does anyone have any tips for this predicament? Or know of any outward facing slings that are safe and comfortable for DS and me?

TIA

Back carrying is your friend. Nice and high on your back.

Have you got a sling library near you? There are lots of sling meets around so you can get help to get him on. It's a knack getting them on your back safely but once they're on I found it so much easier to carry for long periods.

Good luck

Thank you remember. I'm quite a clumsy person so am worried I will struggle to get him onto my back. But I'm desperate so will definitely give this a try. Will start searching for Manduca back carrying instruction videos Smile

Have you tried a hip carry in the Manduca?

IME, back carries in SSCs are quite low, so might not be the best for you. You probably want something which ties under your boobs rather than something which sits on your hips. So a woven wrap, mei tai, that sort of thing.

And getting a baby on your back is a matter of practice for both of you. I am the most uncoordinated person I know, and it's fine. I started by setting baby up in the Manduca on a sofa and reversing in.

Thank you! After a lot of research I finally decided to invest in the ergo 360 to give myself an outward facing carrying option. Will try hip and back too though and we will see what DS prefers Smile

Maybe try supori . It's a hip carrier and I carried my heavy LO in it :) She was 10 kg :)
They usually go till like 15kg , I think. So maybe it will suit you. But check out sling libraries! they'll help you more ))
