Recommend me a sling please!

On DS3 and I'd really like to use a sling this time. DS1 I got a close baby carrier and both he and I hated it. I always felt like he was going to fall out of it and I never really got the hang of it.

DS2 I had a Baby Bjorn Original front carrier and found it much better, more comfortable straps for me and he was perfectly happy in it. However, I have since read that it puts babies in an unnatural position and obviously I don't want that.

So are there any carriers that anyone can recommend that have rucksack-style padded straps and don't involve lots of knots and rings and fabric as I'm clearly not capable of doing these properly! but that put baby in a good position? Thanks!

We have an Ergo carrier which fits tire requirements - the 360 can do forward facing too. Front or back carry. DD was in it until she was well over 2!

Tula carriers are great. Or connectas

Sleepy Nico? Very comfortable from around 4 months old.

I would look at connecta, boba, manduca, tula, they are all good structured baby carriers. The ergo is also good but if you decide to get one check their website for the list of authorised sellers, there are cheap games out of there which aren't made from such good materials bd I have heard stories of buckles snapping or straps breaking on the fakes.

I had a connecta with ds, we then bought a mei tai which we both loved but now he's a big 10 month old we are planning on switching back to one with buckles for more support.

A Connecta will offer the best value. I got mine for £52 on offer from sling heaven. I'm still using it with dd 13 months. She's small but no sign of her growing out of it at all. Also look at a Manduca or Beco if you want more padding.

I find the Connecta the most comfortable for us, and best for quick up and down, but my ring sling is more versatile and looks better. A ring sling hip carry is good for a older baby.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I love the look of the Connecta and also had a look at Mei Tai, which is loads cheaper than anything else I have looked at.

Why is that? The straps look comfy for me, but is the tie bit a faff?

What brand of mei tai? They range from around £20ish to very expensive depending on brand. Palm and pond Ines are very cheap ,I've heard they are good but tend to fit a little smaller. Good for trying mei tais out. Mine is a hop-tye which has wrap straps, personally I prefer wrap straps as it feels more supportive. It took us a few tries to get the hang of tying it tight enough but once I got used to it it was quick to put on and not too faffy.

Ergo or tula for me - dd2 is still in the ergo at nearly 2 and the designs of those brands arev cool IMO

"Baby bjorn One" is excellent . It's fairly new one to the baby bjorn family and is brilliant Best baby purchase for us although pretty expensive but it's worth every penny. We never got any back aches with it either. There are plenty of excellent reviews about it on amazon have a look. Everyone comments on how easy it is to use single handedly unlike most other carriers. Have a look at it. Has a very long life too.

Connectas are great - I came to them fairly late on (DS was 18m) but they are definitely the quickest/most straightforward of all the slings I've had. Very comfortable too. I can still carry DS now at 2.5yrs.
We started with a boba stretchy wrap, moved on to a BabyHawk meitai, then I used a ring sling and a couple of woven wraps for a while, before we mainly stuck with the Connecta. I wish I had practiced more with the woven wraps, because they are certainly the most comfortable and versatile.
IME the trick with wraps / meitais is they need to be much tighter than you think, especially stretchy wraps - you tie it as snugly as possible, then sort of stretch it out with your hands to make room for the baby.
Have you got a local sling library? That's how I found out which slings I liked and worked for what I needed.

I love my moby. There are so many different ways it can be used as well. I carry do (5weeks) in it all the time, and have been known to feed him in it while doing the school run! Love it!
