Is Manduca hurting baby

My Manduca arrived today, I was so excited. Put it on and felt great, put 3 month old in and all seemed okay.
Then after about 20mins she juts started screaming and screaming. There were some red marks on her legs and I did think that it looked as though her legs were very splayed in the carrier. Really upset as cost me a fortune and bought especially as was meant to reduce the risk of problems with hips for baby etc.
Could I be doing something wrong? Just can't believe I've wasted my money, yet again on another carrier that is for the bin. Had Baby Bjorn before and that Hirt my back soooo much.
Any advice?

I have a manduca and have found it to be an excellent carrier so don't give up yet! Are you using the newborn insert- using this should stop her legs being splayed too far apart. I found the manduca does have a bit of an awkward stage when they are a bit big for the newborn insert but not yet big enough for the main carrier. You can try putting a shoelace or piece of elastic around the base of the carrier to narrow it slightly. My son is now 18 months and still loves the manduca- he does sometimes get red marks on his legs when wearing shorts but it never seems to bother him. Hope that helps.

So long as you are using the newborn insert it should be fine position wise.

Could it be the heat? In this weather they get very hot close to your body. My 16 month old loves the Manduca (I back carry now as she is too big), but if it is hot she gets very upset. Also if they are hungry or thirsty being close to the source of milk (if you are breastfeeding) can get them very frustrated when they can't get to them.

As previous poster said, 3 months is a bit of an inbetween stage - too big for the insert and not big enough to use without. You haven't wasted your money - it is a brilliant carrier and probably the most popular thing I have in my sling library of dozens of carriers. But it will come into its own at about 5-6 months, when your baby's legs are long enough for it.

Can you buy a 2nd hand stretchy wrap like the Kari Me or Victoria Sling Lady (not the Moby - it is too thick and hot) to tide you over the next couple of months until the Manduca fits? Or borrow something until then?

Thank you for responding. It's good to know that all may not be lost. To make matters worse when I tried to put my 2 yr old in the Manduca on my back they started screaming saying 'no like it, no like it'!

Someone is willing to sell me their Moby for £20, do you think that it really will be too thick? I really can't spend much more than that after paying for the now unused Baby Bjorn and new Manduca.

The Cot2tot stretchy www.cot2tot.co.uk is half price (now £20) in Cinammon or Olive just now. Thinner and stretchier and easier to use than the Moby.

I got a Joy and Joe one for dd2 for £20, used it when I needed to breastfeed on the go until she was 7 months. Fabric was fine weight wise for last summer.

My 5 month old is only just big enough for the manduca without the insert so I imagine that's your problem. The bottom of the carrier should reach the knees but no further so the lower legs then hang downwards. Also make sure that the bum is right down in the bottom of the back section so it's lower than the knees.

It really should be a good choice once it fits but if you don't get on with it they sell very well and you should get most of your money back if you try the specialist facebook groups. Let me know if you want details.
