Joy & Joe (wrap) as first sling for newborn?

I want to buy a sling before baby arrives (due in 6 wks) so that we can start sling using from get-go (fingers x'ed I don't have an emcs) and I was thinking a Joy and Joe one might make sense 'cos
a) it's cheap and if it doesn't work out it's not a big deal
b) I've heard that wrap slings are good for newborns

I then plan on going to a sling library when baby is a few weeks/ months old, once we've got ourselves together and are out and about, to try out other slings for a more 'permanent' one (I like the look of soft structured carriers)

Does this sounds like a sensible plan? Has anyone used the Joy and Joe wraps? They look good from the website/ reviews I've read, and are much cheaper than the 'branded' wrap slings I've seen more widely mentioned on here...

I have just had a look CityDweller at the Joy and Joe website which ten took me for a lovely 20 minute trip to youtube watching lots of videos about Joy and Joe and other wraps....

They look really fine to me and I really like the price. In wrap slings, I have a HugaBub and a Moby but I think i might get myself a (couple) of Joy and Joe wraps just because they look like such a great price.

And then yes, I agree that once you are in the swing of things, find a local slingmeet and see what else you fancy.

As for the price, I did wonder about it but I think they are a small business and with so many others you pay for the brand.

Are they woven or stretchy? You might prefer a stretchy wrap for a newborn, or buy a second hand woven so it is already soft and broken in.

Maja they do both stretchy and woven wraps, and I was planning on getting the stretchy for the reason you say. They're very upfront on the website and say it most likely won't forever as once the baby gets heavier it feels too saggy...

I'm glad you agree Dysgu that they're a good deal and meet all the required safety tests/ standards, etc. I think I shall go ahead and get one prior to LO's arrival, with the intention of getting something like a Manduca or Boba 3G a bit later on.

No stretchy will last you more than 5-6 months however expensive, so it makes sense to get a cheap one.

The stretchys are pretty good from what I've seen, but the wovens are very long and everyone I know got rid of theirs quickly. I'd recommend a Victoria Sling Lady stretchy-really good value and lovely designs. She's on ebay too.
