How do you wrap up warm with a sling?

Hi all, I'm quite new to this, DS is 6 weeks old and we're starting to get the hang of the sling. I use a Kari-Me wrap, and want to start taking him outdoors (been using pram so far, as he wasn't settling well in the sling, but he is starting to like it now).

I walk quite a lot, and it's getting really cold now, so just wondering how you dress for the weather? Should I put him in warm clothes before putting him in the sling? This seems logical, but then I'd have to take him out whenever we're inside (e.g. a cafe) so he doesn't overheat, which seems annoying. Could I use a blanket and tie it around me/him, or a poncho-style thing?

Just looking from tips and advice on how others do it really :)

Get a massive coat from a charity shop that fits over both of you and fill in the gaps with a wool pashmina style scarf.

If you put loads of clothes on him you will risk overheating very easily. The only thing I used to add on top of whatever indoor clothes DS had on was a hat and an extra pair of socks.

I have finally found a use for the poncho my mil gave me as an xmas present! It's perfect over the top. We both wear a cardigan, something round the neck for me, and a hat+socks/woolly boots for DS. As warm as toast.
Just be warned, I almost lost the poncho in high winds in the playground the other day, and someone though I was carrying around a soft toy as DS's top had bear ears on.

I had a Kari me! I used to put fleece socks or similar on dd, plus hat then had a huge coat I wore over the top. Cosy!

I miss carrying dd in the sling. So snuggly.

DS spent last winter snuggled underneath a babywearing cover, it was lovely. I dressed him in normal clothes so I didn't need to wake him up if he was asleep when I went indoors, I just took the cover off. They pretty much mean that you can wear your own coat over the top.

Guylian, when you say 'babywearing cover ' do you mean a coat extender? Where can I get one? My dp's coat is getting a big tight around me and dd! :-)

I have seen baby wearing cover type things on eBay, very reasonably priced and some have a little hood for the baby!

We just walked the quarter mile to sainsburys in the snow. I wasn't sure how to take 2 week old ds3...pram seemed a slippery option! So I took him in the caboo sling.

It's the first time I've used it, apart from a trying on, so anyway he went into it in his indoor clothes, legs tucked in under him, two layers but no coat - just seemed like he'd be too hot. No hat either for the same reason, I put part of the wrap over his head and my scarf balanced on top to keep the snow off his face. That bit wasn't so well thought out!

Then I put my coat on which wouldn't do up but still, it was fine - it's a good sling thankfully, not too much back ache! And he's still asleep in it now and we got back half an hour ago

Oh by the way a cover is just that, a tailor made cover to fit over your sling and baby...you can get them for various branded ones, not sure about the Kari me. It tends to be more structured ones that sell a clip on cover thingy.

I used a fleece jacket with a high neck (like a turtle neck) and then a large coat that fit over both of us.
much easier in the snow to get around with sling than pram...
