I'm new to the sling world and I'm interested for who is due in march.

After having a look through here I see that tie type slings are recommended but I'm really not sure abut the idea of this scares me, it looks so easy to get wrong!

I have also heard about soft carriers such as the ergo but don't like the look of the inserts.

I don't have a huge budget, have no groups our libraries nearby and no one I know uses a sling so can't really test out before I buy.

The easier and cheaper the better but obviously I want something comfy for wearer and baby is petulant in choice.

A stretchy wrap (moby, kari-me, boba wrap etc) is much easier than it seems before you try. Honestly. It's also your cheapest option. You tie it on before putting baby in (so no panicked faffing with your view obscured by baby). Tbh the comfort of a sling tied to you will be far more important than the ease of something you slip on but that is unlikely to fit as perfectly, if that makes any sense. Some sling libraries do hire by post, have you checked whether this is possible for you?

Oh, forgot to add - congrats on your pg and all the best!

I know generally people like wraps but I have found either ergo (my preference but take your point about insert although my dd2 was fine once in it) or baby bjorn easier.

I found that wrap less easy to put on then never felt as comfortable with it.

The Manduca is as easy as the Baby Bjorn but doesn't need an insert and is more comfortable than the BB...money worth wise it would be a good bet as you can use it on your back when they get bigger up to toddler age if you want.
