How long to use ergo newborn insert for?

the website says use it up to 12 lbs and 4-6 months. My 7 week old s 11 lbs - would I be able to use the ergo in a few weeks without the insert? I do not want to buy the insert if I won't need it, as we are moving back to Egypt at the end of the month andi know it is hot for the baby.

Just to clarify, I am currently using a stretch wrap...But will be purchasing an ergo in the next few weeks.

I would carry on using the stretchy wrap until your baby is big enough to use the Ergo without the insert (which is normally around 4-5 months). You should be fine with a stretchy wrap until then. The insert is indeed very hot and not exactly ideal so I'd avoid buying if you can.
