Fake Ergos on eBay -

RedSquizzle · 17/07/2012 16:02

Hi there,
Just posting in case others are searching for a cheapy too and might get stung - I've seen tons of low priced Ergo carriers in eBay sold by sellers who also also sell Benefit makeup. They only seem to sell these two brands, lots of negative/neutral feedback saying the makeup is fake, with the occasional one saying the Ergo was fake too.
I have to assume it's all the same seller under lots of different guises.
Anyway, check their other items before bidding on an Ergo carrier, and if it's Benefit makeup, avoid!
HTH!

I found a blog with a great list of
How to spot a fake Ergo carrier

Label positions, buckle design, logos on zips etc.

I've been noticing lots of ergo like carriers on ebay since the panorama episode a few months ago. They have been selling for like £15. I assume they realised they couldn't sell the fake ergos and have been selling them as unbranded ones. Makes me cross as they are for babies.

RedSquizzle · 21/07/2012 19:10

I didn't see the Panorama episode, it would have been interesting! Might look it up.

The possibly dodgy ones I've seen have sold for £45-£55, which is a lot for a second hand one, let alone a fake!

I managed to get a brand new branded one on Amazon for £60 all in, so I'm fine, but it seems eBay is flooded with fakes!

red please check the amazon one carefully as Amazon has had fakes too. You will get a refund from amazon if it is a fake. This has recently happened to a friend of mine. Real Ergos are about £80- £100.

Thanks haschem ! I will def inspect it carefully.
I got it from what appears to be a reputable seller, only the one colourway was at the reduced price, the rest were the usual £75-100, depending on colour/style. The one I got is now £75ish, price went back up, so I guess/am hoping they had stock to shift or something. Fingers crossed!

Redsquiggle, you can check if a supplier is a registered Ergo supplier on the Ergobaby.eu website. if they aren't on there they aren't authorised to sell it and it is probably a fake.

I noticed a few dodgy looking ones n Amazon yesterday and having spoken to Ergo today there's no easy way to tell if it's a fake or not. Sad
The cheapest I have found is www.first-signs.com

Thank you midori! My carrier has now been shipped and will arrive in a few days - i'll be looking at it very carefully, and will return it if I have any doubts.
I'll have my fingers crossed tho, we need it for a holiday in a fortnight!

Just a quick update - my carrier just arrived and is genuine! Phew!
It has all the same buckles/zippers etc as the genuine one I compared it to, and the serial number inside the pocket, so I have heaved a big sigh of relief and am going to keep it. Seriously relieved.
Thank you for all your advice hazchem and midori, it was much appreciated!

Just in case anyone else wanted to know (have had a PM wondering which Amazon seller I bought from), BabyZeiten is the seller I got my Ergo] from. They are a German company, and have [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/qid=1343851403/ref=sr_pg_1?ie=UTF8&me=A2G0ISLVZV398K&page=1&rh=p_4%3AERGObaby a lot of different Ergo styles , at decent prices.
Hope this is helpful for someone!
