practical sling for countryside conditions

I was given a long wrap sling for my son 3 wks old 9lb and it was great for just walking down the lane where I live where I could put it on indoors. However we went out today for a dog walk and visiting neighbours farms and its completely impractical to put on and off in windy, muddy conditions and is now covered .in mud where the ends have dragged on the floor. I was looking at mei Tai slings but I think I will have the same problem. I really like the position of the wrap slings and the fact that I can BF but is there anything similar which dosent have long flappy bits and can be used in a rural setting? I'm out and about in non buggy friendly terrain on a daily basis. Any other country mums out there?

Well we were up all night with colic and so I had plenty of time to research different ones and I decided on a rose and rebellion carrier which was pricey but had rave reviews and lovely fabric so hopefully that should arrive asap and get us out and about again.
