Rose and Rebellion or Boba 3G?

I'm looking for a SSC to follow on from the moby wrap my 14 month old is currently fast growing out of. He is small for his age (9-ish kg) and loves to be carried!

I've researched and narrowed the choices down to either a Rose and Rebellion baby carrier or a Boba 3G.

I need to be able to use it with a pushchair as I am a childminder and have 3 under 3 including DSs so comfort for me is important as long as baby is also comfortable.

I like the fact that the Boba is suitable from birth in case I have a third child and the footrests, however the fabric I like is quite girly. I don't mind this for my DS but don't think DH would use it as much as he would otherwise! I like that the R&R is reversible so he would be happy to use it.

I also have a nearly 3 year old and would like to be able to carry him in it occasionally. This isn't essential but would be a nice bonus!

Does anyone have any experience with either of these carriers? What pros and cons have you found with either of them? I'm really struggling to make a decision and would appreciate some help!

Of those two I would pick the Boba 3g.

Why:

  • The foot stirrups make it much more feasible to carry the 3 year old. The R&R is much too narrow for a 3 year old.
  • The R&R is a fairly narrow carrier anyway....okay for a 6 month old but it wouldn't be my first choice for a 14 month old either. It will still fit now but probably not for long.

I know that the Boba 3g says it is suitable from newborn but I don't rate it from newborn tbh. The only SSCs I'd really rate from nb are the Manduca and Olives and Applesauce (both have an integral insert). The Boba reduces in height but there is no width adjustment so it just doesn't work that well as far as I can see (I run a sling library, and have recently been testing everything with my now 10 week old). That said, the foot stirrups do make it a very feasible carrier with a bigger child, so from that point of view it is good.

I would also look at some larger carriers....Bamberoo make to order with your choice of fabrics, and will make the size of your choice (probably a tad larger than standard size in your case) www.bamberoo.hu Shouldn't really be any more expensive than a Boba if you go for standard hood etc but much more individual and you can get both strap lengths and body panel custom sized to fit you and your LO. My DH carried my big nearly-3-year-old in a slightly-larger-than-standard size bamberoo today with both of them comfy.

Thank you so much for your advice, I have ordered a Boba as both my boys are small for their ages and DH and I are both a fairly similar size. I am looking forward to it and I'm sure DS2 will be happier out of the moby!

I think your back will be happier too! :)
