Baba Sling

Just found out I'm pregnant with DC 2. Very early days but starting to think about what I need as I got rid of everything after DD1! Had a Baby Bjorn first time but didn't like it as I thought baby looked very uncomfortable. I'm keen to try again with something different. I'm interested in the Baba Sling as it looks really easy to just slip on. I don't fancy all the crossing over and tying of the wraps etc. I'm particularly thinking about the school drop-off when I want something quick and easy to get out of the car and into the school gates. I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

I loved the bjorn but as my son has got bigger I brought a baba sling. I love it and wish I'd had it from birth. So snug and cuddly :-)

I hated the babasling, too uncomfortable. The ergo is fab, pricy but SO worth it

EmmaNicole · 15/04/2012 19:43

Thanks for your feedback, it really seems as though it's about personal preference rather than accepted good and bad. And the only way is to try them out! I've noticed a real mix of feedback on the review pages. I'm thinking that the Baba Sling would be useful when baby's younger but then I'd get something like the Ergo when it gets bigger and heavier. Lots more research to do I think....

DD1 hated the baba sling. So did DD2. Complete waste of money. I could not find a single position where we were comfortable. It hurt my neck, and didn't feel safe. Have used a baby bjorn with DD2 - shes's 9 weeks - for the nursery run, and, well, everything really as she is a velcro baby and spent the afternoon trialling a friend's ellaroo because the bjorn is starting to get uncomfy. It was little short of a miracle. I have just ordered one.

Ergo the best then baby bjorn - baba sling waste of time and money

pootlebug · 15/04/2012 20:08

I run a sling library and have tried dozens of carriers...but don't love either the bjorn or the baba sling to be honest.

If you want quick and easy I'd suggest looking at:

  • A ring sling...ones made from woven wraps are great
  • The Connecta
  • The Manduca.

Are you anywhere near a sling meet or sling library? www.slingmeet.co.uk You could go along and try some things out in person before your new one arrives and get more of an idea what is out there - very few shops stock a good selection.

Really great comments...thanks everybody! Pootlebug, I live in France so unfortunately I'm not near to a sling meet. Although I'll do some investigating to see if they have such a thing here too. I can see that it would be very useful to try before you buy.

Emma where are you based? I travel to Paris a lot (second home there) and you are welcome to try my baba or a Moby if nearby

EmmaNicole · 16/04/2012 10:50

That's a really kind offer thanks Gigondas. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere as glamorous as Paris (I wish!) I live in Clermont Ferrand, in the Auvergne. I notice you say you have a Baba and a Moby...how do you find each of them?

Baba I could never get along with - neither me or baby was comfy.

Moby I bought as had ecs with dd2 so my ergo wouldn't be great while I recovered .

It's been ok- very easy to use when get knack and comfy. Dd2 quite likes it (is in it as I type ) and it does seem as if it has capacity to be used for a while as baby grows.

Part of reason I love ergo is how long I used it (til dd1 was 3) . Also it distributes weight better onto your waist and away from your back/shoulders.

Fraktal · 22/04/2012 12:26

emma I'll be nearish you in July and don't mind lending my enabling stretchy, ring sling or buckles for you to try.

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 22/04/2012 12:31

I have Baba, Moby and Baby Bjorn.

Baba is a complete waste of time and money. Too roomy and flappy for a little baby - you have to use your arm to support.

Moby is tricky to get on and off but brilliant when on, very versatile.

Baby Bjorn best all-rounder.

Safmellow · 22/04/2012 12:39

Babasling was useless - DD was uncomfortable and so was I :(

EmmaNicole · 25/04/2012 15:14

Thanks for all your messages...I think I'll be steering clear of the Baba sling! Fraktal, that's a very kind offer thanks and I would love to have a try of your gear!
