Ring sling for a 18mth old - good idea?? - what type??

DS2 is coming up to 18mths and has only just started walking and then only when you hold his hands consequently I end up carrying him on my hip a lot. I was wondering whether a ring sling would be a good idea so that when we our out we can do a quick toddle then carry then toddle without killing my biceps holding him. I have a connecta sling which works well for longish country walks etc but does need a bit of effort to get him in - so I want something very easy to pop DS2 in and out of. Would love to know whether a ring sling would be a good idea for short'ish trips and if so what would be recommended for a chunky lad. Thanks

Why does it need to be a ring sling? They tend to be more fiddly IME which may not suit the in/out situ.

At that age we used a back pack style one, which has been brill, DS still loves it at 21mo and likes being up where he gets talked to a lot on walks.

It is one like this:

But there are loads similar and cheaper, I think it will last until he is older than a sling would. If you do lots of walk (like we do) that may suit the long term better?

Unlike the previous poster I find ring slings very quick and easy....different things work for different people!

Are you near a sling library or sling meet so you could go and try one out before committing to buy one? www.slingmeet.co.uk should have details.

For a chunky toddler I'd recommend a ring sling made from a woven wrap. I can still carry my 4 year old in mine. That said, I prefer a two shoulder carry for any length of time.

I agree with Pootlebum. Ringslings are great. There may be a sling library near you where you can try out lots of options. I know there are lots of very helpful ladies over on the www.naturalmamas.co.uk/forum. My friend carries her 3 year old in a ringsling for the quick ups and downs.

I also think there's a lot to be said for the simple fitted pouch too.
