Which sling for 16m old on holiday?

We're heading off on a long-haul holiday when my dd is 16m and rather than hefting a pushchair round we'd like to get a sling. I used a wrap when she was small but to be honest she hated it, always been a bit of a livewire and I think objected to the very close held (trapped?) feeling.

So am looking for something that allows a fair amount of arm/leg movement, is comfortable for the wearer (preferably with support around the hips), can be worn front or back and would not be unbearably sweaty in hot weather. She's not tall or heavy for her age but as we'd be spending would like something that would carry her for a while.

A friend has recommended the patapum, which I like the look of and isn't too pricey but would appreciate any comments from anyone else too.

Thank you

Definitely not the standard size patapum - it's tiny. The toddler size one would work though. Another good possibility is the Boba (either the old 2g if you can get one at a good price, or the new 3g). The optional foot stirrups mean it will last quite well to support her legs as she gets bigger.

I've recommended the Boba above the Ergo as I find the Ergo thicker and warmer - I think the Boba would be better in hot weather.

My favourite hot-weather buckle carrier is my solarveil Bamberoo www.bamberoo.hu/solarveilen . Solarveil is a very breathable summer fabric. They come up 2nd hand on Natural Mamas for sale boards, or you can buy them custom-made from www.bamberoo.hu
Because they are made to order, she could make you a petite toddler sort of size that would last longer than most standard size carriers.

I have an Ergo which I love! My dd is only 4 months but we've got a lot of use out of it already and it can be used up to about 3 years apparently, and is for use on front (facing inwards only), back and hip. Also it's easily adjustable for different people so both me and dh can use it. The sport version is a more breathable fabric than the original. I find I can walk a long way with her in it as the weight is carried on your hips rather than your shoulders.

Get a LittleLife ultralight. It's small enough to fit as hand luggage but big enough to be a bag and fit everything + baby in. I have one and can easily walk 4 miles with a 3 year old in there xx

Ergo is fantastic! I comfortably carry my nearly 4year old in it (on my back)- to the point she has fallen asleep. I can carry my 22 month old either position all day long (if needed). I bought a little camping bag that you can "stuff things in"- kind of like a sausage and it fits really well and goes quite compact which is great for travel. I have the options style and have NEVER found it too hot- and I'm from Australia! Oh and I ran easily for the bus the other day with the little one in it!- still missed the bus though :-(
