slings for petite mums

Hi all,

I am due to have DC2 in a few weeks and am looking for a new sling. I had a Wilkinet with DS and while it was v comfortable for me, I found it an absolute nightmare to get him in and out of it, especially when out and about, and hence it didn't get as much use as I'd hoped.

I did try out my friend's Baby Bjorn but I'm only 4'10" and have quite a short torso and the whole thing was just way too big to fit my frame and therefore impossible for me to use.

Can anyone recommend a sling that's comfy to use and super adjustable for all heights/frames, like the Wilkinet, but that is much easier to get the baby in and out of?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The Connecta is quite small, and has buckles so much simpler to put on than the wilkinet. A friend who is only an inch or two taller than you and very petite had one and it worked well for her.

Another possibility is something like the Hop Tye - lovely and snuggly for small babies. It has long straps but they tie around quite well and it is much easier to put on than the wilkinet. Because it is soft and quite adjustable (with drawstrings top and bottom, and the straps can be altered to any length) it will fit both smaller and larger frames.

Are you anywhere near a sling meet or sling library? You could go and try out a few things to see how they fit your frame?

Thanks pootlebug. I'll look into those two. I'm not aware of any sling meets near me but I'll do a bit of research and see what I can find out.

Hi, I'm 5 ft. I was warned off the Ergo because of my size, but found the Beco Butterfly worked well for me. One or two places will let you hire it first to check it works, if you can't find a sling meet near you. I wanted something like a Beco rather than a Connecta as the straps are padded and I felt would be much more comfortable for me.

Thanks Wicket. I was tempted by the Ergo as a friend has one so I'm glad you've warned me off. I'll take a look at the Beco, thanks.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I bought a Beco today - it looks like exactly what I was looking for!

Wicket - I also have DC2 due in a few weeks. How far along are you? I'm 34 weeks and dying for it all to be over now. I'm so heavy and uncomfortable!
