Help with ergo please

I have two slings - an ergo and bjorn classic

My dd is 10 weeks and weighs 5.5kg - she is long 60cm

My bjorn is already killing my shoulders with a rucksack on too but I din't have the newborn insert for the ergo. Is there any way of using it without buying one - dd us alert and has good neck control already so I think she might not like the insert so don't want to waste money. Please.

I used the ergo without the newborn insert from about 3 months (he probably weighed more than your dd, but was shorter), but the way their legs have to bend definitely wasn't comfortable for him when he was that small (head support wasn't a problem). So I made a "booster" to put in the bottom with a rolled up towel. This raised him up enough that the leg angle wasn't so uncomfy, and his head was less buried behind the straps. This worked ok, but he was definitely happier in it for longer stretches once he got a bit bigger.

As well as parsleysandwiches idea you could also try bulking you DD out in a snow suit, I am still carrying DS with the insert for long trips but now that he is a bit bigger I put him in without the insert if he is in a snow suit (it's quicker for short trips). It's obviously not what they would recommend but may be worth a try.
