I received my carrier this morning but can't work out how to stow away the sleep hood. The website suggests that the material of the sling should sort of separate so that you can stuff the hood down inside the body of the carrier but mine doesn't seem to allow this and there is no obvious way to make it work! Am I being dense here, or is the hood storage place usually pretty obvious and my sling is faulty?

It's not faulty. I had the same problem and it took ages to figure out - it was the SIL who worked it out in the end. It doesn't end up as deep a pouch as it looks on the picture, which is where I got confused.
The small straps clip to the arm straps and then you just fold the hood in half and tuck it behind baby's head. The inside of the pouch should be the patterned material, with the black inside cover against baby's head.
