Moby wrap - what am I doing wrong?

I am using a Moby wrap with my 6 week old and love it! However, I don't think I am tying it quite right - when I put her in everything seems fine - she is nice and high up on my chest and very secure, but after about 20 mins of so I notice that she is starting to very gradually slip down. It happens very slowly, but this morning I had her in it for about 2 1/2 hrs and by the end her head was 3-4 inches lower than it had been at the start. I am following the instructions that came with the wrap, but I am sure I must be getting something wrong, as I am sure this isn't supposed to happen.

I know it is difficult to tell without seeing me tie it, but any ideas what the problem might be?

You need to tie it very tightly - there shouldn't be any slack to accommodate the baby at all, the stretch in the fabric will do that. As tight as a tight tshirt was the rule I went by (not that I wear any of them these days!). You might also need to tighten it after you've had it on for a while as the fabric relaxes, easy to do without taking off by 'bouncing' the baby up and tightening bit by bit.

:) not sure that rule will work for me - there is a good reason why I don't wear my t-shirts very tight!

Should it be difficult to get the baby in then? I thought I was tying it tight, could go tighter but I will really struggle to get her in.

yes, if she is slipping down then you need it tighter.

I second zgaze above - I used a Moby for 10 months with DS2 and you do have to tie it tighter than you think! Not so hard that you can't get baby in of course, but pretty much wrap it around you without leaving any space - not pulling it tight but not leaving any slack, ifswim? When I put him in, I had to pull/stretch the fabric bit of the front cross out to put his leg in, then the other for the other leg.

It stretches when you put baby in. You can also bump baby up like zgaze suggests - my DS used to love this!

When on properly, the baby's head should be at a height where you can kiss it easily.

Hello - also I think this is one of the downsides to stretch wraps - it's not a big problem as you can tie a bit tighter and retighten but if it bothers you more as your baby gets bigger then you can always think about transitioning to a woven wrap which do this a little bit less.

Thanks. DH used it today and tied it a lot tighter and it seemed to work better - still wasn't quite right but she certainly didn't slip down.
