Ergo, Beco or something else?

My DD2 is ten months old and has grown out of the Baby Bjorn (she's not too heavy but she is too long). I'd like a non-framed backpack for her and have seen various recommendations for the Ergo and Beco, but don't know anyone with either to have a closer look and am reluctant to fork out the money without a bit more research.

So please could some experienced backpackers let me know the following:

  1. What do you use?
  2. Can you do it yourself?
  3. What do you do if it rains?
  4. Is it small and portable when not in use?

Thank you!

Have a look and see if there's a Slingmeet nearby, you might be able to have a go at some different ones.

I use woven wraps, but I've heard things about both slings you've mentioned. I've got a Manduca in our Sling library, and it seems good too.

With a bit of practice you will be able to do back carries with no help. Have a look on YouTube for different ways to do it.

If it rains, use a brolly Wink

Yes, they do fold up fairly small. Some will be bulkier than others depending on how padded the straps are. But they'll fit in an average sized change bag or rucksack no problem.

Thanks reindeer. No slingmeets near me alas :(

I hate brollies with a passion, but maybe I'll need to get over that!

1)ergo, ergo, ergo!
2)I can get DD (nearly one) on my back by myself - am sure will get easier as she gets older and when it's summer and I'm not wearing a big coat. I also pop her on my front for short spells.
3)umbrella or hat if just drizzle ...
4)fits under buggy (maclaren) no problem

and she'll even drop off in it if knackered. it's great - although v £££ ...
