Making a sling

Has anyone had a go at making their own sling, and if so, how did it work out for you? I am contemplating having a go at one, of I can find a suitable material, but as I'm not a brilliant tailor I'm wondering if it will all end in tears and not be worth the trouble. Obviously, I'm also concerned about doing it properly so DS will be safe.

It'd probably be a ring sling. I used a Kari Me with DS fro 0-5 or so months, but stopped using it in the summer, but now I'd like some extra support when I carry him on my hip.

I always just used a large rectangle of fabric with DS, a Malaysian friend showed me how they tie them out there.

There are sure to be some tutorials online, I will have a search for you.

I made a pouch sling using these instructions. I did use a sewing machine. It is quicker and the seam does need to take a babies weight. It is a great sling for keeping in your bag for short carries as it is so small and very quick to put on, but I do like a two sholdered sling for long carries
