Please recommend me a mei tei

I'd like to buy a mei tei for my 11 mo. I use a lovely 'Pouchlings' ring sling for short walks and calming purposes and a Moby wrap for more heavy duty use. I'd really like something I could use on my back now and although you're supposed to be able to use these two for back carries they're not very practical/ comfortable.
She's a little one, around 18lb, but very strong and mobile. Money is fairly tight (although this is an advance birthday present from great granny) - are there advantages to more expensive ones other than looks?

Advantages to more expensive ones - possibly in that the straps might be stronger/wider. You could try the yahoo uk sling swap group - you will be able to get plenty of second hand offers there to make your money go further. Also, have you thought about an SSC? Mei tai kind of shape but with clips, so IMO much easier to get on your back. How about a Connecta? I also have a Rose and Rebellion which looks gorgeous but haven't really tried it yet as DS2 is still only 3.5 months. I am also coveting a Maya tai (tie?) at the moment which is a mei tai with really wide, wrap-like straps. They look mega comfortable. Sorry for the lack of links, posting from my phone.

Just re-read your post, your DD is about the same weight as DS2! Waah, I wish I had a little, lightweight baby sometimes! :)

I'll follow your suggestions up, thanks. Hadn't thought about an SSC actually. Will look. I'm so used to tying with the wrap that I hadn't thought of clips.
There are advantages to little babies, yes, once you get past the HV!!

I've ordered a Connecta Integra. Browsed all day, seemed the best I could afford. Second hand ones go for new prices anyway, it seems, and get snapped up. Hope it suits us. I'm sure it will.

:) I should be on commission from Connecta, you're the third mumsnetter who' bought one on my recommendation!

Yes, you should tell them! It's arrived and we love it. Already had a beach walk with her on my back (takes a bit of getting used to, but we'll keep practising). Also a nice front carry walk, ending in a soundly sleeping, very comfy baby.

Connecta has a facebook page and occasionally runs competitions.
