best carrier for over 1

Hi

Best carrier for 1 year old - preferably leaving hands free?

I have three young children, 4, 3 and 14 months - though 14 month is walking well.

We booked a holiday before my DH had an accident that is and still will be by time of our holiday affecting his mobility.

We don't drive and were going by two trains to destination. I don't want to cancel as children have never had a holiday.

I may have to get all three and suitcase on the trains and buses by myself - so need all he help I can get, may also need to help DH.

I have the baby bojn, hug a bug and a new native sling but LO doesn't like any or arn't comfortable now.

Generally leaving pushchair behind would make getting about on public transport easier - so if the sling carrier could cope with up to three year old it would be good.

The Ergo! It's fantastic and we use it all the time on the back. However if you're going to use a back carrier it needs a bit of practice before you set off to get the child in by yourself. I use the Ergo with my 2 year old (have used it since 6 months) and think we will definitely still be using it in a years time when he's 3.

we've gone for the toddler Patapum - reasoning LO will be 16 months by our trip and very tall for her age - so fingers crossed it will be o.k.

So waiting for it to arrive now - though take your point nesomja about practise being needed.

ds was in a toddler patapum from about 6 mths (he was tall and heavy) so you'll be fine! It was a million times better than the baby bjorn though getting him on my back took a bit of practice! I used the "hip scoot" method - did the carrier up round my waist with the back section hanging by my hip, held ds on my hip and pulled the back section up to his shoulders, scooted him and the carrier together round to my back by taking my opposite arm round my back so I always had one hand on his back and then getting my arms into the shoulder straps. Bit difficult to describe but it worked !

Hi, I use a Boba which I absolutely love. DS is 15 months (tall and heavy!) and the Boba is very comfortable and he loves it too!

I've now been out with toddler Patapum and pushed DH in wheelchair and older children walking along side. Even got on a bus - though was thankfully we were meeting some family in town to help get us back.

Hopefully DH will be more mobile in a few weeks so should be able to managed a suitcase - got the kids a trunki so should be all set as that is a hit - hopefully if 3 year old get tired may help out if not they are keen to look after it so I can have a smaller case to manage.

Just need to practise getting LO in it by myself - bit of a faff with DH in wheelchair trying to load her in with me on my knees - and they'll come a time I'll be by myself. It just finding the time to practise at the minute.
