Has anyone allowed themselves up to 30 syns a day and still lost weight?

Just basically wondering if anyone has gone above their syns and still managed to lose weight? I want to lose about 1 stone but I am a total chocoholic and find my syns don't stretch far at all for someone like me who has a really bad sweet tooth.
Just hoping there are people out there who have still lost weight even if they arent totally being strict with their syns.

I stick to 10 syns. That's enough for a chocolate bar a day of I need it. 30 syns is triple the amount you're allowed so can't see it working. What else do to use your syns for?

BestestBrownies · 06/05/2020 22:33

I really couldn’t be arsed with any diet plan that demonises food by calling it sinful. If you log everything on MyFitnessPal and stay within your calorie limit it’s possible to eat chocolate every day and still lose weight.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 07/05/2020 07:56

30 syns is triple the amount you're allowed

Isn't it double? The app gives me 15.

In theory I think it would be possible if you are on the heavier side (so have a higher BMR) or are very active. Roughly 30 Syns = 600 calories doesn't it, rather than the roughly 300 you might get just having 15? Although it's probably more complicated than that. For example, I'm finding having a low-syn breakfast means I'm having fruit and a small amount of cereal with low sugar, and that will often fill me up until lunchtime whereas a large amount of sugary cereal wouldn't, so more syns could make you eat more overall.

Is there any food you are finding it difficult to cut back on in particular or is it just general hunger that is making you want a higher allowance?

InfiniteSheldon · 07/05/2020 08:33

I always have 20 and it works for me but I am very very active

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 07/05/2020 09:46

Oh I didn't read the OP properly and see it's chocolate that's the issue and you only want to lose a stone (so I assume you are relatively slim).

You could always try it I suppose, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work unless you up your activity levels a lot too.

berrychakewellplease · 07/05/2020 10:51

Because of the nature of the plan, I don't think that exceeding 15 syncs would work because you run the risk of exceeding calories.

Can you track calories along side of SW? slimming world is brilliant if you stick to it!

andpeggy1 · 26/05/2020 22:36

Yea I go over my weekly syns every week ad still loose Atleast 1.5lbs. But I'm sure my run of cocky ness will come back to bite me when one week I'll have a (rightly deserved) half stone gain 🙈

Dixiechickonhols · 29/05/2020 05:30

Unlesss you are a man or very heavy that would be an extra 105 syns a week. Route a maintenance is only 20 to 30 syns extra a week. So you'd be eating far more than the maintenance plan.
15 syns is a lot for choc a day. If you only eat free and speed food you can have 3 freddos and still be on plan (not saying that's recommended but you could use all syns on chocolate)
Do you like sweet freedom choc syrup? half a syn a teaspoon. I have it on 0% greek yoghurt etc for a sweet hit. Aldi sell it.

Juiceey · 29/05/2020 11:52

I get 20 syns a day as I'm so big (20 stone) and it's fine for me, I use them all up and still lose 2lbish a week.

mymadworld · 08/06/2020 23:36

I think As others have said you will struggle to lose just a stone going over like that every day. Tbh you you would be better off trying to find some more sensible options to replace the chocolate if you want to keep the weight off long-term. I Appreciate fruit and something like yoghurt aren't chocolate but it's as much about breaking the bad habits and if you're using 30 syns a day for chocolate those habits are still there. Trying to think about your triggers for wanting chocolate - For example I used to buy a bar if I went to the shop. Or to the petrol station so started buying chewing gum. It was hard to start with but after a while I did stop and now don't even consider it. Likewise in the evening I want to sweet treat fruit yoghurt maybe some sugarfree jelly or just a square of dark chocolate all of which eventually because the new normal. Yes of course I do occasionally want a big fat slab of Cadbury's and I'll use my daily allowance but I wouldn't want to everyday or I couldn't enjoy other things like oil for cooking or dressing on my salad.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone thinks 30syns would work whilst I'm pregnant.

Im not too overweight now (63kg at 13 weeks) but I am desperate not to gain too much whilst I'm expecting.

BeNewbo · 12/08/2022 19:12

I also have a very active job as a nurse so also trying to keep my energy and cravings at bay

I’d join a group if you can and get correct info the plan is different for pregnant and breastfeeding. Think you get extra healthy extras. Syns are a little extra or sweet treat not to fill you. You can eat lots of free food to fill you no need for extra syns.

dehloh · 12/08/2022 19:41

The amount of syns only makes a difference when you count the calories of your food.

If you are eating low calorie things then 30 syns wont matter. If you are stuffing your face with potato and pasta then 30 syns will make all the difference.

Hence, calorie counting, not SW.

Dixiechickonhols · 12/08/2022 19:47

Yes some prefer cc if you like more ready meal/on the go eating as you can eat it within calorie allowance and lose whereas it would be high syn - pizza is example of this might be 800 cals so ok cals wise but very high syns.
SW suits me as I usually cook from scratch and for health do focus on eating lean protein lots of veg. I just use syns for a bit of sauce, choc etc. You have to pick what suits. Sw works fine properly with 1/3 plate veg.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 12/08/2022 19:49

Try eating darker chocolate to satisfy a chocolate craving with smaller amounts. Most choc is full of sugar that will lead to cravings and erratic blood sugar. Better to eat a small amount of dark chocolate with less sugar.

No cook from scratch as well . The point I was trying to make is that SW can be healthy, so extra syns wouldn't make much difference. It can also be an utter garbage way to eat for some, so having more syns would make a difference because overall they would be consuming more calories/sugar/fat than someone who has a healthier plate. Not sure how you equates that to ready meals though. Cooking from scratch can be lean or fat depending on choices.

dehloh · 12/08/2022 19:59

I cook Blush

AnotherLongDay · 12/08/2022 20:16

I don’t think it would work. I’ve tried to cheat at SW and it didn’t work 🙄Stick to the rules and it worked amazingly

Not meant as a criticism. I know some people struggle with sw as ready made stuff is high syn even if cals ok - pizza, shop bought sarnies, smoothies. If you are wanting 30 extra syns you perhaps chose things like that and struggle to stay within normal syns and cc suit better. I’d struggle to spend 30 syns a day as most choices I like to eat are free. Not saying everyone who cc eats ready meals just it is easier on cc than sw if you do - just scan barcode on nutracheck.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2022 19:27

What choc do you est

i always have a skinny dream which are 5 so you could have 2/3 if not using syns for mesls
