I'm thinking of trying Sw - do I need to go to a group?

I weigh 17 stone and desperately need to loose weight. This past month I've increased my excerise and tried to cut out treats (chocolate etc), but I've only lost 3lbs so I know this isn't enough.

I've been looking through Instagram and I've seen all these slimming world accounts, so I'm wondering about joining.

I don't really want to go to a class as a.) There's no one to look after my toddler b.) I just don't feel like I can face being in a class situation like that. I struggle socially so I don't think it's for me.

I've looked at the online membership but I can't afford it. So is there another way to find out about it? Any books I could buy? Thanks

You can just go to group to get weighed and then leave, which is why my mum does as she can't really fit it in with work etc, but again it is quite expensive to just be weighed and leave.....it helps my mum stay motivated though. I really liked my group and people took children, so you could definitely take your toddler if you wanted to go.
It's a really good plan so worth trying.

I do it online only and have just hit my club 10 (lost 10% of my body weight) award which although I never needed to lose loads, I never thought I'd achieve. As long as you weigh in every week and enter it on the website, you get a record. It depends on your mentality though. I have had a few bad weeks where I either stay the same or put 1lb on and it sort of spurs me on the next week.

Take your toddler! Groups are used to having little ones there.

I've lost 4 stone in the past 2 years with SW (got to target last November) and am 7 stone lighter than my heaviest ever. I couldn't do it without going to group (which is why I started back again 2 years ago - I had previously lost 5 stone but gained 2 of it back).

Come and join us on Bootcamp! It's here, on MN, so you don't have to go anywhere, don't need a babysitter, and it's free! We're just about to start week 3, but you can jump in right now

I've just looked at the prices and I can't afford the weekly groups atm - definitely don't have £10 free this week to sign up Blush

I'll look at the boot camp thread instead, thank you :)

You could try pinch of nom for menu planners etc.

There's a voucher In reveal making your first week £4.95 and you'll get the books there.

I'd say join in group and get the talk and books then you can try doing it at home? If you say your a shift worker you don't have to pay back fees for missed weeks so you could attend every other week?

I was very much the same as you in the beginning! my daughter was 8 weeks old when I first joined and started going to classes - i messaged the consultant just to make sure I could bring her along too and she had no problems with it!

I had severe anxiety after birth, so I couldn't imagine anything worse than socialising, but I bit the bullet and jumped straight in and I'm so glad I did. It's so nice to be with like minded people that want the same things and, in a way, have the same habits as I do.

I"m 4 weeks in and 9lbs down - so go for it! I couldn't recommend it more.

If you go to your GP, they night give you a voucher for a number of weeks (10 weeks I think). Not all areas offer it but many do
