Really upset, I can't go to my group! How do I get over this?

I'm 18 and the youngest person at my group. I love it so much, my consultant is lovely. I love the people there too! It was in the afternoon, so did find it hard as I would drink or eat so I went to a morning group a couple of times, just to be able to have a drink in the morning but then saw on Facebook that people from my college's mums have joined. It may not seem a big deal. However, I'm not friends with the girls in my college, I'm not enemies but they do have a type and I don't want them to take the piss and their mums are that type who'd go home and be like "oh my gosh, guess what" and the mums do know me as my mum used to be friends with them. I have kept going to the other group and said to my consultant that it's because of something else but I really plan on being back ASAP. I'm just so upset, am I ever going to be able to go back?

These girls would have to be really mean to be nasty about you making an effort to lose weight and be healthier. It's like laughing at someone for going to the gym.

Is your concern that they will laugh about it?

They would take the piss though, as they are that type. I know it seems silly, but it's quite odd to be going to slimming world at my age (like in my college) and I know they would laugh about it and the mums there is just the worst

they wont i promise you. they would say well done. people are more concerned with themselves

I have lost a stone and a half so far I have quite a bit to go though.

But they are the judgy types, I have seen it first hand, but not to me, if you see what I mean?

I might have to just keep going to the other group and then just brave it in a couple of weeks

go when it suits you, when you are happier.

Show them there's nothing to laugh at as the weight drops off you.
If it's really worrying you, have a look on the SW website for another group to suit you, even if it's in a nearby town, then maybe return to your old group when you feel ready; just take the pressure off yourself.
I'm sure your confidence and self-esteem will increase as your weight goes down.
Don't be put off by this; you sound like you're doing brilliantly so far.

Sounds like you are doing amazingly well. I think.I might be tempted to keep going to the group if you love it. They will only say something the first time if they do, after that it will be old news anyway!

Well a) you are doing brilliantly and if it's not what people your age normally would do then you are even more amazing. If this is what works for you then stick with it, this is your group remember you were there first! Then b) I think we all know some 'judgey' people, the older I get the more I recognise types and they will make a big fuss about it annoy everyone on FB for the next two weeks then do less and less well and probably quit at some point in the next 4-6 weeks. You just have to wait them out.

Don't give up what works for you, it's harder when you are young I know but now is the time to start working on your coat of I don't give a shit what you think or say, if you are on MN you are already half way there! Good luck and congratulations on the weight you have already lost.

Also you can eat and drink before group, just behave normally food and drink wise it won't make any difference.

Are there no guidelines about confidentiality? I know it couldn't be as strict as it is for Drs but perhaps you could ask your consultant to maybe touch on the importance of it and trust at the start of one of her meetings?

Discussions about overeating and being overweight can get quite emotional, and people need to feel that they are amongst friends, and in a safe environment.
What happens in class stays in class!

Text the leader and ask her to have a general chat about confidentiality and respecting others privacy.

Know where you are coming from. Someone from work goes to a different group (same leader as me, different time). She turned up at my group one time, did the weighing in. Next day at work everyone knew a I was doing SW, my weight and losses. Lots of sarky comments.
