My weight loss journey to Ivf

lugo40 · 02/07/2015 12:12

I have decided to record my weight loss on here to keep me motivated and focused.

I grew up being told I was fat and negativity used as motivation. I first joined a slimming club at 12 but had been following from about 6 as my mum joined them all. At 15 I began comfort eating. At 27 I got anxiety and depression and gained a huge amount of weight very fast.

Looking back at photos I was not overweight as a child and even until 22 was a size 16 Which I would love to be now!! At 27 I went from a size 18 to 22/gaining 4 stone in a year. I'm now 31 a size 22/24 and after 18 months of trying to concieve have discovered my husband is infertile and we need Ivf. I was so convinced that the lack of pregnancy was due go my weight it's been a huge shock.

We joined slimming world together , husband as 2 stone to lose and I have 7 stone to lose in order to get Ivf.

My weight loss so far:

Week 1- lost 5 1/2
Week 2- lost 2 total 7 1/2
Week 3- lost 3 total 10 1/2
Week 4- lost 2 1/2 total 13

It's my first time doing slimming world and I completely love it!!! I will get to try Ivf and I will have my baby x

I piked out! Didn't go and weigh in as I know it's been a bad week. I've been pretty distracted and eating on the run a lot. So making a big effort this week. I have things like baked potatoes ready to go for lunch, lots of fruit and I'm going to roast a chicken today, strip it and keep in the fridge. Might also pick up some risotto rice and squash.

How are you getting on?

lugo40 · 11/11/2015 09:23

Hey! well done Mrs C - fab weight loss!!!! what do you do differnetly when you get the big losses? i dont get big losses anymore, just 1-2 a week if i am lucky but i am glad with any loss really.

Sounds like you have a great plan quickbrownfox! planning and being organised is definitely key. good luck - let us know if we can do anything to help!

3 stone! Stuff of dreams. Well done lugo!

lugo40 · 11/11/2015 16:31

thank you. i feel a bit deflated today as only half way through my weight loss journey and have had a bad week of just eating more hifibars than i should etc. not stuffed my face on choc or cakes but still feel disappointed in myself. think because i maintained this week i know i wont get to my 3 1/2 stone target by our holiday so its like i have given up... even though i still have 3 stone to lose!! annoyed at myself today

thequickbrownfox · 11/11/2015 16:37

We all have days like that- I was actually weighed at an appointment today and I was 12.125 st meaning exactly the same as last weeks weight! At least I now know
I haven't gained, after chickening out of the weigh in last night.

I think maintaining is a positive - at least you didn't put on! You've done amazingly well losing all the weight you have, you can do the final few miles - I tend to purge snacks from the house when I'm having a bad week.

lugo40 · 13/11/2015 19:27

Week 24: 1 1/2 off. 3 stone 1 1/2 in total !

thequickbrownfox · 13/11/2015 22:03

Wooop! Great work Lugo!

lugo40 · 14/11/2015 06:40

Thank you! Well done ti you for maintaining too. Funny how when we think we've done badly it's normally not as bad as we think it will be!!

MrsC2013 · 19/11/2015 17:58

Well done to you both again!

I'm still officially the same as the system was down at group last week, so nobody could be weighed in! Am off to group shortly though so will know what the difference is. Don't feel like it's much though- do feel like I've slowed down and it's annoying as I need this stone! Will see how it goes, hopefully it'll be better than expected

MrsC2013 · 19/11/2015 23:45

Lost 2 pounds so it was better than I thought :) Need 1.5 for my 2.5 stone so am hoping for at least that next week. Ideally it'll be 3 though to get me in the next stone bracket Smile

lugo40 · 20/11/2015 09:24

Well done!!

Only lost half a pound. I don't understand it. In last month I've only lost 4 pounds. And I've got 4 stone to go, i can't wait that long!! I've been so good all week. I'm fed up now as I don't know what more I can do... I'm off on holiday for two weeks and really don't want to gain as I can't wait for ivf anymore than I need to!!

MrsC2013 · 01/12/2015 13:38

I'm a bit frustrated too Lugo I've found that losses are definitely slowing down, it was a maintain last week! Doing a few SP days now to try to get a decent loss this week when I weigh in on Thursday. In group they keep saying it'll come off in time, but I'm like you, I can't wait too long as I'm hopefully starting Clomid in January but it is dependent on losing another 12 pounds or so to get my BMI to 30. I've waited long enough to get medical help with ttc so just need my body to play ball and for the weight to come off!!

CuffsAndCollar · 01/12/2015 19:40

It sounds like you're doing great. I know it's frustrating when losses allow, but for me I'd get patterns like 1/2 pound, 1 pound, gain, minus 4 pounds. Totally weird but I have a theory that sometimes my body holds onto fluids as its losing fat and then I get a big loss.

I also seem to temporarily gain when I'm ovulating (TMI sorry). Anyway, long way of saying that it's in these times you most need to stick at it, your loss is 'in the post' if that makes sense and you don't want to jeopardise it :)

lugo40 · 07/12/2015 05:36

Week 26: holiday
Week 27: gained 5 pounds - 2 weeks of all inclusive !! Total 2 stone 11 pounds

OP posts:
CuffsAndCollar · 08/12/2015 21:51

Ah, could have been worse, bet it was fun :)

I've found if I get back on the wagon straight away, big gains in a short amount of time seem to come off pretty quickly too.

lugo40 · 18/01/2016 11:56

JaneHair · 20/01/2016 20:51

Well done Lugo! I have three stone to lose in order to get to the max bmi for IVF so I'm following your thread with interest. Would it be okay if I posted my weight loss journey here too?

MrsDarcy4092 · 21/01/2016 09:11

hi JaneHair - of course it is!!! I'm sorry you are also having to have IVF. Are you having it with the nhs? I don't think we qualify for funding sadly so we are going to our first open day at a clinic this weekend, even though we are at least 6 months of starting we thought it would be good to see a few clinics now so we can form a plan.

Good luck with your weight loss- you can do it!!

MrsDarcy4092 · 21/01/2016 12:10

ps - i have had a change of name !

JaneHair · 21/01/2016 20:20

Thank you MrsDarcy!

I had two rounds of NHS IVF in 2011 which resulted in my little girl. I have put on a lot of weight since then. I have an embryo in the freezer but i cant do the embryo transfer until i lose at least three stone.

Have you definitely been turned down for nhs funding?

MrsDarcy4092 · 22/01/2016 17:40

Congratulations on your little girl! How lovely to hear about a success. We've not officially been turned down but we have a copy of the policy and it states if they can't find a cause for the male infertility they won't provide funding. And it's looking unlikely they will find a cause.

giraffesarefab · 23/01/2016 09:45

You are such an inspiration lugo/Mrs D! Please keep going, hold onto that dream you have and I'm sorry IVF is such a nightmare, so many rules!

I too have about 4 or 5 stone to lose (though not for ivf) but you have inspired me to keep going, even though I'm only 3 weeks in but tbh, I've usually given up by now or at least fallen off the wagon but SW seems to be working! Good luck to you and your DH x

MrsDarcy4092 · 24/01/2016 15:39

Week 33: 2 1/2 pound loss total 3 stone 1/2 pound total

Thank you so much giraffe! That's so kind and nice to hear. It can be hard to keep going but just remember your reasons for joining and these threads are a great support too. I went for a walk with my little nephews today and had so much more energy than normal, it was great 😀 I even jogged a long with them!!!

MrsDarcy4092 · 31/01/2016 06:53

Week 34: 1 1/2 pound loss, total 3 stone 2 pounds
