My weight loss journey to Ivf

lugo40 · 02/07/2015 12:12

I have decided to record my weight loss on here to keep me motivated and focused.

I grew up being told I was fat and negativity used as motivation. I first joined a slimming club at 12 but had been following from about 6 as my mum joined them all. At 15 I began comfort eating. At 27 I got anxiety and depression and gained a huge amount of weight very fast.

Looking back at photos I was not overweight as a child and even until 22 was a size 16 Which I would love to be now!! At 27 I went from a size 18 to 22/gaining 4 stone in a year. I'm now 31 a size 22/24 and after 18 months of trying to concieve have discovered my husband is infertile and we need Ivf. I was so convinced that the lack of pregnancy was due go my weight it's been a huge shock.

We joined slimming world together , husband as 2 stone to lose and I have 7 stone to lose in order to get Ivf.

My weight loss so far:

Week 1- lost 5 1/2
Week 2- lost 2 total 7 1/2
Week 3- lost 3 total 10 1/2
Week 4- lost 2 1/2 total 13

It's my first time doing slimming world and I completely love it!!! I will get to try Ivf and I will have my baby x

lugo40 · 27/09/2015 19:12

How are you doing so far?

ihavenonameonhere · 28/09/2015 12:24

Good but had a migraine yesterday and feel rough today so just not eating at all! I would prefer the slimming world approach to the migraine approach!

MrsC2013 · 30/09/2015 00:08

Just wanted to say well done to you Lugo! Stories like yours are an inspiration to me as I have PCOS and am losing weight in order to go on Clomid after 2.5 years of ttc. I've lost 1st 6 so far with SW, and still have 2.5 to go to get my BMI where it needs to be. My original aim was to lose 4 stone for November too, as I have my next fertility app, however I'm not losing at the rate you are, despite joining only a couple of weeks after you. So I'm just trying to get as close as possible for then, and then keep going, as I know it'll need to be lower still if I need IVF in the future. It's the only motivator I've found that keeps me going. What more motivation could we need than a baby?!

lugo40 · 02/10/2015 07:13

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon. It's much harder focusing on a diet when you are ill.

Best of luck to you ! 1 stone 6 is incredible!! Well done. The rate of loss doesn't matter, you have done it! I know how hard it is though when you feel your against the clock. Is November your first fertility appointment? I hope it goes well. I've very overweight which does make the loss a bit quicker- I'm aiming for my bmi to be 34 so still pretty high but not considered high risk in pregnancy. You are so right, there is no better motivation than having q baby! Good luck.

Week 18 2 1/2 pounds off which is a total of 2 stone 9 pounds!

I want to lose 5 in next 2 weeks ... We'll see! Got a holiday in 8 weeks and really want to be at 4 stone by then. Can only try x

OP posts:
MrsC2013 · 04/10/2015 00:49

Thank you Smile I know I do feel against the clock, as I've had a few fertility apps so far over the last year and a half and it's so frustrating that everything takes so long! The only reason I want it to be quicker is for the app in Nov, as last time the consultant said the only way they'll treat me is if my BMI was lower. She said they'd accept 34 one time but then at the next app said it has to be 30, so I'm not sure what will happen! I won't be able to lose the 4 stone by then, but I should have got my BMI to 32 hopefully so I'm just going to remind her of the 34 comment and insist that they do something to help!

Well done on your latest loss. I'm aiming for at least 2 pounds this week to get my Club 10. You're right that we can only try and do the best we can x

lugo40 · 11/10/2015 22:45

Mrs c how are you doing? With bmi of 32 I really hope they will at least start the process and book treatment in etc. I will keep fingers crossed for you.

Week 19- 1 1/2 lost total 2 stone 10 1/2 pounds total

MrsC2013 · 14/10/2015 22:26

Thank you Lupo I'm at 1st 10.5lbs so far, BMI 34. Last week was brill, 3.5 off, got my Club 10 and SOW. Hoping to match it tomorrow at weigh in to make it 2 stone! Well done again on your amazing loss.

MrsC2013 · 14/10/2015 22:27

I mean Lugo not Lupo! Lol

lugo40 · 17/10/2015 09:59

Fantastic weight loss well done!! What did you do differently? I seem to be in a 1 1/2 loss a week pattern now. Good luck for this weeks weigh in!

OP posts:
lugo40 · 17/10/2015 10:00

Week 20: 1 1/2 pound loss total 2 stone 12 pounds

OP posts:
MrsC2013 · 18/10/2015 01:16

Thanks :) Didn't do anything differently strangely. 3.5 is fab but most I've had off in a week is 5. Hoping for that this week as it was a maintain on Thursday! Consultant said it's prob due to having a great few weeks but I was a bit disappointed. Just really wanna hit the 2 stone mark, as it's about a third of the total amount I'd like to lose. Well done on your latest loss x

lugo40 · 02/11/2015 06:11

Week 21: maintain :-(
Week 22: 2 pounds off 3 stone in total!!!!

How are you doing? We're on holiday in 3 weeks and I want 3 1/3 off by then and then 4 by Christmas. I need 6 to get my bmi to 34 for private Ivf or 8 off to go for NHS ivf. I will get there. I'm going to try some exercise classes this week

OP posts:
MrsC2013 · 02/11/2015 09:27

Well done, you are doing amazing! I'm doing ok, I'm a pound off losing 2 stone. Expecting to have a good week as I'm exercising and doing an SP week. Appointment is this Wednesday so it's just one last push. Think BMI will be 33 then, so I'm still hoping they'll help, especially as I'm going to keep on losing

thequickbrownfox · 02/11/2015 09:35

Well done!! I'd love to hear what you are eating in a normal day? I've half a stone off, but it seems to be stalling and am expecting a gain tonight due to my toast and marmite habit overcoming me this week. Im slightly struggling for inspiration with food at the moment.

lugo40 · 03/11/2015 20:20

Good luck Mrs C! Please let me know how you get on. I will keep fingers crossed for you.

The quick brown fox well done on your half stone! That's brilliant. I vary my diet quite a lot but I always always have left overs the next day for lunch so I get 2 big meals a day.

Today I've eaten:

Breakfast- egg fried in 1/2 tsp butter (1 syn) with mushrooms and 2 lean sausages (2 1/2 syns)

Snack: Apple and Alpen light (1/2 healthy extra b)

Lunch: left over bacon and leek risotto (1 syn)

Snack: 2 clementines and an Alpen light (1/2 healthy extra b)

Dinner: cowboy pie (1 syn)
Muller light

Snack: 250 ml semi skimmed milk (healthy extra a) made into hot chocolate with options powder (2 1/2 syn )
5 chocolate mint match makers (5 syns)

Total 13 syns

I eat a lot :-)

OP posts:
thequickbrownfox · 03/11/2015 20:28

Brilliant! That sounds like a good day- I hadn't really thought of risotto - that will help my meal planning.

I've been eating a LOT of eggs, omelettes, baked potatoes, chilli and curry. Really need to vary it a bit so it's great to see your menu.

I was thinking about subscribing to the magazine, if only for the map planners.

Amazingly, I lost half a pound at the weigh in last night which was a real surprise as I had a very bad week (pizza, wine, chocolate with gay abandon etc). Back on the wagon now though and had fruit for breakfast, sw coronation chicken sandwich for lunch and stir fry for tea.

lugo40 · 03/11/2015 20:58

I really love the magazine, it has fab recipes and stories in it.
I'm a real chocoholic and a real snacker so I found it easier for the first couple of months to only have free snacks in the house and no bread as I couldn't trust myself in the early days!
Well done on your loss and for getting back on it. We will all have ups and downs with weight loss it's just important to get back on it and keep going. Good luck!

OP posts:
thequickbrownfox · 03/11/2015 21:13

Yes bread is a tricky one for me! I did see my consultant post a recipe made from melted chocolate, toffee muller light and cocoa powder! Might try that this week to avert my cravings.

I have 1.5st to go to get to target weight.

MrsC2013 · 05/11/2015 00:15

It went ok Lugo. BMI was the very top of 32/ bordering on 33, and she was very strict that it has to be 30 to start Clomid. I was upset for a moment at having to wait longer, but there is a plan in place. She's asked me to lose one stone to get to 30, then go back in 6 weeks when she will give me Clomid, no more questions or tests! I'm feeling pretty positive about it, as I know I'll get the stone and finally get to try Clomid. Just hope it works, but I'll worry about that when it comes to it! Weigh in tomorrow so will let you know how it goes. Welcome and well done on your loss to thequickbrownfox too!

MrsC2013 · 08/11/2015 14:04

I forgot to update! Had a brill week, lost 4.5 pounds! Was SOTW again too. Am now at 2st 3.5lbs off, still a stone to go to get Clomid as the appointment was only a day before SW weigh in. How are you two getting on?

thequickbrownfox · 08/11/2015 14:51

Amazing!! Well done you.

thequickbrownfox · 08/11/2015 14:54

My weigh in is tomorrow - not anticipating much of a loss this week as I've had a week of running around after children and snacks on the go. So I've eaten a lot of things I shouldn't have! My own fault, I really need to organise myself better for next week.

MrsC2013 · 11/11/2015 00:22

Thanks Smile How did it go? I think organisation is key to it. If I haven't planned ahead, I usually find a solution for something to have, even if it's just a chicken salad, but do find it easier when everything's sorted so I'm not tempted to go crazy eating something I shouldn't
