I really want to lose weight and have discovered that there is a SW group nearby. Is it ok just to turn up for a first session or should I arrange this in advance?

Just turn up but if the consultant knows you are coming then they will lookout for you. Drop him/ her a text. Their number will be on the SW website. Go a few minutes before the advertised time. Good luck!

I joined a few weeks ago - I didn't call in advance. There was a board at the door that gave the approximate timetable for the group. Mine starts at 5.30 and goes something like this:

5.30 - 6.00 arrival/weigh in/new member sign up.
6.00 - 6.05 news/introduction
6.05 - 6.45 IMAGE therapy - this is where the consultant goes round the group, announces their weight loss and asks how they are doing, do they need any help, do they have any tips to share with the group etc.

On your first week you should also hang round at the end to get weighed and get all your books etc.

The consultant was present at the door so introduced herself to me pretty much straight away and sat down with me and a couple of other new members to fill forms in and show us the plan and things.

Look out for joining offers - last time I checked, you only had to pay a joining fee in June and December and it was 'free on special offer' for the rest of the year - I think there might also be offers in magazines and possibly on the web - it's probably the case that almost no-one actually pays to join SW, just the weekly fee.

Thank you Worktolive. I'm looking at joining next week, and your post was very helpful.

Well, I joined my local group this week Smile. Everyone seems friendly and we had a few laughs. I am hoping that a regular weekly weigh in will make me stick with it. I have lost weight before but it gradually crept back on due to lack of willpower.
