I'm planning on joining slimming world, there's a Tuesday mornings group near me that is apparently baby and toddler friendly, so I can take the kids with me, however my current diet mostly consists of chocolate and ice cream and doughnuts (though I do eat a proper evening meal) so just to horrify me, how many months worth of sins is a tub of phish food ice cream?

MisForMumNotMaid · 14/04/2015 19:55

1/5 tub is 11.5 syns. So a tub each week is well within plan. 15 syns per day.

Chocolate is doable daily within syns. Little packs of chocolate buttons, curly whirlys are 6 syns.

Theres a slimming world version of doughnuts that i've not tried but some seam to love. A very fresh soft wholemeal roll, split with a spoonfull of jam or nutella then sprinkled with sweetner and warmed. The only syns are the spoon of jam/ nutella. As you get an allowance for fibre each day that you can use for your roll.

TheBooMonster · 15/04/2015 12:42

That makes a tub 5 servings Blush perhaps I should swap to the mini tubs...

I'm also going to have to find something sensible to eat for breakfast :/

I started on Monday and it's ok.. I'm never hungry or worrying about food which suits me . Good luck

MisForMumNotMaid · 15/04/2015 13:03

I've lost five stone eating bacon medalions, tomatos, mushrooms, beans, potatos and egg for breakfast about half the week.

For a fast breakfast its bacon medalions and hot cherry toms in a wholemeal bun.

Alternatively 35g oats soaked overnight in 175ml (approx) fat free yogurt overnight, add an egg and sweetner and vanilla or lemon juice then fry as small dollaps and you've got lovely sweet american style pancakes.

Breakfast has become quite a big event.

calzone · 15/04/2015 13:05

I love breakfast!

Ff yog with 40g crunchy bran, blackberries and banana today.

My diet was similar before SW, except mine was pretty much medically ordered. Not as fun as it seems... The good news is, that when you stick to plan you'll probably find you lose quite quickly, especially at first, so that might motivate you?

If you're a junk food junkie then do you think you'd prefer sweet breakfasts? I sometimes have sweet french toast (made with eggs, a drop of skimmed milk, vanilla and a bit of sold a, served with fat free geek yoghurt (can mix vanilla and Splenda in if you want) and fresh berries. It really feels like a treat. Well, these days... Grin I also make 'magic pancakes' which are surprisingly good and sweet soufflé omelettes. When I don't feel like something sweet I have cooked breakfasts or omelettes. Maybe a bacon and egg sandwich.

I do find the less junk I have the less I crave. I also really enjoy snacking on fruit, which I would never normally do. If you want it though, that's what your syns are for and although 1/5 a tub of Ben and jerrys might not seem much, I find I eat things like that more slowly and really enjoy them now, whereas before I was just shovelling them in.

ThedementedPenguin · 16/04/2015 13:06

I joined Monday and so far so good. Think on Tuesday I went slightly over my syns yesterday I had about 10ish.

I am a mega junk eater and so far I haven't missed it too much. Although I check out the syn value of everything so when I am feeling like I need something I can grab it knowing I'm okay.

TheBooMonster · 16/04/2015 21:49

ok, with breakfast am I right in thinking I can have mueller corners and they're ok to be syns? I have cherry and some sort of red berry thing in the fridge and it looks like they're 5 syns?

Lunch I generally have jacket potato (I'm just going to have to chose 1 topping instead of three!) and that's free with light cottage cheese or beans?

looking forward to Tuesday! Going to mix it up with some Zumba (because dancing doesn't count as exercise in my head)

How does sw work can someone explain it simply? That sounds like more than I eat now! And ice creAm & curly willys?? It can't be calorie counting can it? Thank you

namechange2015 · 16/04/2015 22:00

wirlys ffs Grin

calzone · 16/04/2015 22:50

Boo.....muller lights are free SmileSmile

Midori1999 · 16/04/2015 22:50

I like the sound of curly willys more... Grin the simple version is you can eat unlimited pasta, rice, potatoes, cous cous, lentils and beans, fresh fruit, veg, lean meat and fish (including lamb, duck, salmon, smoked salmon) low fat cottage cheese, quark, fat free plain yoghurt, some fat free flavoured yogurts, baked beans. Other stuff too. Then you have a measured amount of milk to cheese and bread, cereals etc. on top of that you get 10-15 syns a day to use on whatever you want. Extra bread or milk, chocolate, ice cream, crisps etc.

Midori1999 · 16/04/2015 22:54

TheBooMonster, you can use your syns on whatever you want.

Jacket potatoes, you can have as many toppings as you want as long as they're either free, a healthy extra or you use your syns. So, tuna and cheese or cheese and beans, for example. Or tuna, cheese and coleslaw.

calzone · 16/04/2015 22:54

Name change....

SW is low fat.

Each day I chose a Healthy Extra A which is usually skimmed milk for me. You could choose cheese.

Then I choose a Healthy Extra B which can be cereal, bread or crackers.

Then on the Extra Easy Plan, protein, vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice and low cal drinks are free. As much as you like. There are also lots of ready meals and processed stuff you can eat.

On top of that, you are allowed 15 syns a day. I choose a small chocolate bar and a packet of Skips perhaps. You could have wine if you like.

Tis the easiest diet ever and I love it.

Loads of support here and online FB groups.

calzone · 16/04/2015 22:54

Hth not hath.

MisForMumNotMaid · 17/04/2015 09:41

I'm big on jacket potatos too. Some of the healthy light mayos are 1/2 syn a tablespoon like the Aldi lighter than light. So i quite like tuna, mayo and sweetcorn or prawns with diy marie rose sauce (mayo, tomato puree plus a big squirt lemon juice), i also add frylighted onion, chilli powder and chopped tomatos to a can of mixed beans for a quick filling spicy bean mix.

Aldi also do pancetta bits that with careful selection are very lean. They bulk up beans and add a bit of bite to the dish. I also like to add wild garlic to button mushrooms and microwave for a lovely instant dish either in or to acompany the jacket meal.

It sounds like you're getting your head around it. Good luck with the Zumba.

Deedeecupcake · 17/04/2015 09:50

Boo.. Muller corners are not free. Muller lights are free. Although there is some new muller goodies that are like a muller light corner I guess and are around 2.5/3 syns. And they're yummy.
My mantra for when I crave chocolate or crap is "if an apple won't satisfy me, I'm not really hungry. I just want to eat crap".
So I now eat an apple or other fruit and see if I still want the chocolate. I'd say 8/10 times I'm satisfied with the apple...
Also, for a fantastic chocolate hit, try Aldi's chocolate and fudge benefit bars. 2 bars is HEB or 3 syns each.
Good luck, you've made the hardest step by joining!

TheBooMonster · 17/04/2015 10:13

I think I have some muller lights, I miscalculated on my tesco order so I have some that are in round pots that I hid at the back of the fridge rather than the corners, shall investigate!

Best start putting fresh fruit back on the orders, I have a freezer drawer full of fruit for making smoothies with but smoothies are syned :(

OP posts:
Deedeecupcake · 17/04/2015 13:18

I use the frozen fruit all the time! They go really well on porridge in the morning. Frozen blueberries are like boiled sweets ( well in my head) so in the evenings I like to have a bowl of them :)

namechange2015 · 17/04/2015 17:58

Thanks for explanation Smile

namechange2015 · 17/04/2015 17:58

Ps can't get to a meeting so thinking of joining online

CheeseFlavouredDiscs · 21/04/2015 23:32

Hi BooMonster and namechange Smile

I joined slimming world this week too, and my diet is usually about the same as yours BooMonster.

I'm currently trying to work out what I can eat tomorrow... I suspect it's less complicated than i'm making it.

My current plan is:

Breakfast: 2 weetabix (B), whole milk (A) (I am going to switch to semi skimmed, but haven't done the shopping yet!) and 2 lvl tsp sugar (2 Syn)

Lunch: Scrambled eggs with a splash of whole milk (I will measure it, but guess this will be about 2 Syn)

Snacks: Mug Shot (2 Syn) Jelly/Fruit pot (1 Syn) couscous (2 Syn)

Dinner: Dried spaghetti (free) & meatballs (free if lean mince?) with tinned tomatoes (free), tomato puree (free), onions (free) 1/2 tbsp veg oil (3 Syn!)

I need to figure out what else to eat as this will not fill me up! I make this 12 Syns so far, leaving me 7 Syns to use up still. (I'm so overweight that I'm allowed up to 20 Syns)

MisForMumNotMaid · 22/04/2015 13:53

Congratulations on signing up. I'm Still not quite able to get my head around losing 5 stone and eating more than i've done in years.

Looks like a good starter plan. Maybe you could consider adding a bit more free speed foods i.e. Fruit and veg? I bulk up my pasta sauces with finely diced celery and grated carrots.

Scrambled egg I'd probably have grilled/ dry fried mushrooms and tomatos with and if i wasn't having on toast to make it a bigger meal a can/ half can of spaghetti hoops which would add some sauce to the dish.

Would you consider having a fat free yogurt (something like a muller light vanilla with chocolate sprinkles) and/ or berries with your wheetabix so its still sweet but saves the 2 syns for sugar? Could you save just a splash from your milk allowance at breakfast to have with your scrambled egg?

Most of the less than 1% fat mugshots are free, something for the store cupboard.

Don't feel pressured to use all the syns. Just live within them. To an extent they can be saved up so if you find you're using 15 or less a day thats a couple of proper sized drinks on a weekend/ night out.

Regarding 7 syns left what are your pleasures? Curly wurlys are under 7 as are small bags of buttons and fredo, lots of icelollies are under 5, many crisps also.

Don't forget to drink plenty of diet drinks/ water it'll help your digestion with the change in diet.

CheeseFlavouredDiscs · 22/04/2015 17:16

I did a big food shop today and bought lots of fruit, veg and protein! I also got loads of low or zero fat versions of cheese/yoghurt etc, as well as the low cal spray, WW low fat spread and semi skimmed milk.

I have been slaving away in the kitchen preparing it all so it is ready to eat and looking appealing. I have carrot, pepper and celery sticks. I am going to make the slimming world homemade hummus and see how it tastes with the veg... I'm not expecting much, but hopefully it'll be edible! (I've never eaten celery before) I have a huge tub of sliced strawberries, pears and raspberries too. I also made a huge chilli con carne sauce based on the slimming world recipe (I added chickpeas like the Jamie Oliver recipe)

Today's food:
Breakfast: 2 weetabix (B), 100ml whole milk (4 syns!) , and 1 tsp sugar
Lunch: 3 egg omlette, 40 ml milk (1.5 Syns) with spinach, 40g low low cheese (A), and Apetina low fat salad cheese cubes (2 Syns)
Snacks: Bowl of strawberries, raspberries & pears with 100g honey flavour zero fat greek yoghurt (1.5 syns) and a dollop of the no flavour fat free yoghurt, and a boiled egg.

Tonight my plan is chilli and rice. I get hungry late at night so im saving my syns for late night hunger pangs!
