Camping with a one year old

We are planning a couple of camping trips with our one year old later this summer. Can anyone give me any tips for making the whole experience enjoyable rather than loads of hassle? (can you tell Im not really a fan of camping anyway !!)

I am particularly worried about how I am going to persuade my DS to go to bed without the usual bathtime routine when it is still daylight outside.

As he is an awful sleeper at the best of times (up at 5am every day ) I would like to try and get him to bed at his usual time and then hope he doesnt wake up too early.

Any other advice appreciated !

waterproof trousers vital.

re bedtimes, you just accept that they won't go to sleep until late the first night. For other nights you may still need to keep him up a bit later than usual. Kids always get tired camping though so it's not always as hard as you expect.
