Putting an active baby to bed

DS is 10 months. Our old bedtime routine was that I would lay him down and sing to him / shh him with my hand on his back, and most of the time he'd go off without too much trouble. Now, though, I put him down and he sticks his head up, crawls forward and if given the chance will pull himself up to standing. Not very restful. So I've reverted to putting him to sleep in my arms like I do for his naps. Has anyone else been through this and got their baby back into the habit of lying down to sleep?

My DS did this when he first started crawling and standing. Now I feed him to a drowsy state and put him down on his front (he's 9 months). Usually he's nice and relaxed so will drift off.

How long has he been crawling for? Maybe he's just so excited he has to do it all the time!

Crawling's old news, but he's only just learnt to pull himself up on his cot bars so now he sees his cot as a bit more of an adventure playground.

Yes DS wakes up in the night and we find him crying, standing up holding the rail in the middle of the night
